About The Position

Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Senior Recreation Leader performs a variety of activities at a community daycare facility, where he/she is responsible for the planning, coordinating and supervising recreation activities. Work requires the ability to supervise and engage children and serve as on-site manager in the absence of the Site Supervisor. Work requires skills and training in conducting recreation activities. Works in conjunction with the Site Supervisor to develop and expand program activities to meet the needs of the community. Work is subject to regular inspection and review for conformity to established standards and methods.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED required
  • Two years of experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to work open or closing shift
  • Thorough knowledge of various special recreation programs, and ability to lead participants in a variety of activities
  • Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with fellow employees and the public
  • Knowledge in steps required for planning special events and recreational activities
  • Ability to assume responsibility for leadership of programs when Site Supervisor is not present
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek assistance as required.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in related field with experience and/or training preferred or a combination of training, education and experience that leads to desired abilities.
  • Must have own transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the organization of games and maintains discipline at indoor and outdoor play area
  • Observes necessary precautions to secure the safety of recreation participants and spectators and renders routine first aid in case of minor injury
  • Conducts a diversified program of children’s activities.
  • Assists Site Supervisor in providing general supervision of the various assigned activities.
  • Performs administrative duties assigned by the Site Supervisor.
  • May act as a chaperone for field trips or other activities needing supervision
  • Assists with cleaning the facilities
  • Inspects all facilities, playground and equipment and reports issues as necessary
  • Provides appropriate disciplinary measures according to Agency parameters and develops a rapport with children and parents.
  • Maintains program equipment and supplies
  • Assists with planning and implementing recreation activities
  • Attends all mandatory trainings as assigned by Site Supervisor and/or School Services Team
  • Serves as a mentor for Recreation Leaders and program participants
  • Builds and maintains positive relations with parents, school administrators and all recreation employees
  • Assists Site Supervisor in supervising employees in childcare programs.
