About The Position

The SRC will implement, manage and participate in approved recreation and residential activities simultaneously ensuring student growth in social interaction skills and improved behaviors. S/he ensures the safety of activities for students and RCs. Each may be requested from time to time to help Directors plan appropriate learning activities. SRCs will consistently use OTMSS with their RCs, model appropriate interactions with students and apply approved interventions and consequences. S/he will evaluate the performance of assigned RCs in a timely manner; and communicate pertinent, concise and accurate information to the CSL who will share in shift reports to incoming staff or sooner if deemed urgent.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferred; but an experienced individual can qualify
Employee management experience is preferred
Strong communication skills: Listening, Speaking, Writing & De-escalation
A year or more of successful work as a RC2 at LRA is preferred

Responsibilities

Develops growth experiences for staff and students in accord with IAGER & approved practices
Works with assigned RCPs to provide meaningful shadowing experiences as part of T raining
Applies continuous OTMSS to then M onitor, S upervise and S upport all RCs assigned to them
Conducts performance reviews of RCs, detailing SWOTS; identifies follow-up training needs
Participates robustly in as leader of activities in designated locations on- and off- campus
Participates in shift-change meetings with CSL to ensure the proper flow of information from his/her RCs to incoming SRCs and CSL regarding a) how each student in his/her group is doing b) who is on special precautions, and why (eg illness, AWOL risk, etc) c) performance in on- and off- campus activities and interactions with visitors d) completed and anticipated student appointments (medical, dental, etc visits) e) completes shift-report notes and documentation as required or requested
Ensures that learning experiences happen for students assigned to their Activity Groups
Takes proactive steps to identify and address concerns. Knows when to call the CSL for help > The CSL will engage on-call therapists and administrators as appropriate
Requires & teaches RCs how to participate robustly in activities, and to ultimately lead them
Uses and teaches RCs how to use approved interventions and consequences with students
Works hands-on with students and RCs to ensure all activity and living areas are presentable
When serving as CSL, SRC applies stepped-up duties: MBWA to on-campus student locations
When serving as CSL ensures 1:3 ratios are being met in any on- and off- campus activities; assists SRCs and all RCs as requested; provides bathroom breaks for staff as needed.
Models and teaches the guidelines provided in both Student-Parent and Employee Handbooks
Completes work thoroughly, promptly and efficiently; manages multiple tasks simultaneously
Analyzes successes and shortcomings, then problem-solves with determination and creativity
Supports approved decisions, responsibly completing tasks with minimal supervision
Holds self, fellow staff, and all students accountable for doing what is required
Makes well-informed decisions; consults with others often; implements practical solutions
Communicates collaboratively; promptly responds to verbal requests, phone, text, and email messages
Reads and adheres to updated LRA practices, promptly reporting violations to RR Dir or HR Dir
Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professionalism as a representative of LRA in all locations
Follows all safety requirements and does not hesitate to suggest changes that might improve safety
Pursues continuous professional growth in order to enhance student, staff and personal performance
Demonstrates an understanding of the behavioral improvement plans by consistently using them
Uses IEP, ISP and BIP objectives when creating learning experiences for use with activity groups
Completes necessary documentation within times specified in policies and procedures
Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis studies if requested
Greets all visitors, parents and reviewers with a smile, appropriate comments and utmost respect
Models ethical behavior when resolving misunderstandings, disagreements and conflicts
Contributes to long-term planning; supports CQI initiatives and collection of Outcome Data
Manages all allocated resources efficiently and effectively, and requires others to do the same
Responds positively to any Director’s request to perform other duties
Able to interact skillfully with all Department Directors sharing pertinent information
Leads, participates in & teaches RCs how to effectively use de-escalation techniques
Able to determine when restraints are needed and lead RCs safely through doing so
Knows when to contact the CSL for assistance and does so promptly
