About The Position

Community Access (CA) is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join its Real Estate Development team. This role is crucial for managing new construction and portfolio preservation projects, as well as collaborating with executive leadership on land acquisition and new project development. The Real Estate Development Department focuses on planning, developing, financing, and building multifamily residential projects in NYC, including supportive housing for the formerly homeless and affordable housing for low-income families. The department has a strong track record of developing and preserving housing units and oversees major renovation projects. The Senior Project Manager will oversee projects from initial site assessment and acquisition through design, financing, construction, and final conversion to permanent financing. For preservation projects, responsibilities include managing regulatory, lender, and investor due diligence and developing strategies for long-term project viability. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with executive and senior leadership, as well as operational and programmatic departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, engineering, public policy, finance, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of real estate project management experience.
  • Strong written skills, analytical and thinking skills.
  • Strong Project Management Acumen
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to foster cordial and professional relationships with team members from diverse disciplines.
  • Tolerance for risk and multi-tasking.
  • Willingness to ask questions and learn new things.
  • Confidence to make suggestions.
  • Ability and willingness to take full ownership of projects and work autonomously towards their fruition.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a range of new construction and portfolio preservation projects.
  • Work with executive leadership on land acquisition and new project development.
  • Manage new construction projects from site assessment and acquisition through building design, capital and operating financing, site preparation, construction, transfer to CA Property Management, and conversion of construction funding to permanent financing.
  • For preservation projects, manage regulatory, lender, and investor due diligence.
  • Develop operating and financial strategies to sustain projects for long-term viability.
  • Ensure timely response to lenders, investors, agencies, and internal teams (typically within 1-2 business days).
  • Maintain current checklists, schedules, and action logs for all active projects with no critical gaps.
  • Ensure development and construction budgets are maintained within ±5% variance of approved assumptions.
  • Ensure 100% completeness and compliance of submitted financing applications and funder reports.
  • Complete assigned reports, applications, and submissions on or before deadlines (≥ 95% of the time).
