The Senior Radio Frequency Engineer will be responsible for developing a range of new Wireless products. This new suite of products will extend Eaton’s already successful wireless solutions and bring an unmatched level of industrial enterprise connectivity.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in RF (Radio-frequency) engineering or electronics engineering with RF focus or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of of relevant work experience
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship now and in the future
  • Knowledge of RF circuitry including amplifiers, mixers, filters, PLL synthesizers, oscillators, modulators and demodulators, RF switches, and reference oscillators (VCTCXOs).
  • Understanding of baseband circuitry including ADC and DAC architectures and characteristics.
  • Experience with digital circuitry including microcontrollers, GPIOs, and synchronous/asynchronous serial interfaces.
  • Knowledge of power circuitry including LDOs, buck converters, and boost converters with attention to RF noise performance.
  • Experience with feedback control systems including AFC, AGC, PLL, and ALC loops.
  • Understanding of half-duplex systems using 2-level and 4-level FSK modulation.
  • Knowledge of packet structure and timing in half-duplex systems.
  • Understanding of narrowband versus wideband transceiver requirements.
  • Knowledge of FHSS versus DSSS radio systems.
  • Expertise using RF instruments including signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, VNAs, VSAs, and noise sources.
  • Measurement of S-parameters and matching circuit design.
  • Understanding of filter roles in receiver and transmitter chains, including heterodyne architectures.
  • Gain and noise figure calculations across receiver and transmitter chains.
  • Radio calibration for frequency accuracy, RSSI, and transmit power.
  • Knowledge of antenna parameters and conducted and radiated RF measurements.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and approval processes including FCC and CE.
  • Understanding of pre-compliance and certification testing.

  • Phase noise measurement and analysis.
  • Receiver sensitivity measurement.
  • Digital signal processing including digital filters, frequency demodulation, and bit/word synchronization.
  • Embedded C software development for microcontrollers.
  • Experience with RF and electronic circuit simulation tools.
  • Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi physical layer experience.
  • Understanding of RF performance variation with temperature.
  • PLL control loop design and stability analysis.

  • Design and develop portions of complex wireless products and systems.
  • Deliver market-competitive, manufacturable product designs on time and on budget while balancing innovation and risk.
  • Develop a deep technical understanding of existing wireless products and propose product improvements.
  • Serve as a key member of cross-functional project teams and actively participate in design reviews.
  • Learn and support Eaton’s current radio product portfolio.
  • Support existing product lines and perform other related tasks and projects as required
