About The Position

The Senior Radiation Therapist is responsible for the delivery of safe, accurate simulations and radiation therapy treatments according to the prescription provided by the Radiation Oncologist and any treatment protocol. This role provides direct daily supervision to the Staff Radiation Therapist and serves as the team leader in their absence. The Specialty Senior Radiation Therapist independently performs advanced treatment techniques and quaternary patient care, which involves a high level of complexity and specialization. Proficiency is achieved through various rotations at the Mass General Main Campus in Boston, including the Proton Therapy Centers, Lunder Treatment area, and the Simulation and Brachytherapy Suite.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ARRT recognized program or equivalent in radiation therapy technology.
  • BS required if graduated after 2000. Associate degrees will be accepted for candidates that completed their education prior to 2000.
  • Current Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist-Radiation Therapy License required.
  • ARRT Certification or equivalent certification accepted by the State of Massachusetts with active registration and CE compliance required.
  • Clinical work experience 2-3 years required.
  • Experience with modern linear accelerators, simulation and verify / record systems.
  • Experience with modern and advanced radiation therapy techniques required.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art treatment delivery systems and sub-systems (e.g. record & verify, x-ray imaging) required.
  • Physical reach to work with equipment as high as 5-6 feet above the floor.
  • Physical strength to assist or lift impaired patients from a wheel chair or stretcher.
  • Physical strength to lift accessories weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Operation of patient assistive devices such as ceiling lifts.
  • Capable of comfortably lifting and inserting patient accessories into the treatment units at all possible treatment angles during patient treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of safe, accurate simulations and radiation therapy treatments according to the prescription provided by the Radiation Oncologist and any treatment protocol.
  • Provides direct daily supervision to the Staff Radiation Therapist.
  • Serves as the team leader in the absence of the Manager of Radiation Therapy.
  • Independently performs advanced treatment techniques and quaternary patient care.
  • Rotates to treatment and simulation areas as directed by the Manager and Team Lead Radiation Therapists.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to maintain skills in one or more advanced, quaternary care techniques.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to meet age-specific requirements for the population being served.
  • Displays sound judgment and makes confident decisions.
  • Demonstrates calmness and the ability to show patience in stressful situations.
  • Provides guidance and shares knowledge with Staff and Student Therapists regularly.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize them effectively.
