Senior R&D Manager
About The Position
Boston Scientific is seeking a Senior R&D Manager to lead development of innovative interventional cardiology products within its Emerging Technologies Division. The role leads a team developing next-generation cardiac pumps and interventional heart failure devices to address unmet clinical needs and expand access to therapies. It combines people leadership with technical and product leadership across the product lifecycle, requiring sound technical judgment, medical-device development experience, and trusted relationships with direct reports, cross-functional partners, and senior leaders. The position is based at the Arbor Lakes facility in Maple Grove, Minnesota, and follows an on-site model requiring employees to work there at least four days per week. Some travel may be required, anticipated to be less than 20% and potentially including international travel. Boston Scientific will not offer or take over employment-visa sponsorship for this position at this time.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in product development, engineering, medical devices, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience leading and managing technical teams.
- Proven record of developing medical devices from early-stage development through full product launch and sustaining activities.
- Proficiency in design controls and risk management, with an understanding of regulatory expectations for medical-device product approvals.
- Experience working in highly matrixed, global organizations.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment across functions.
- Ability to communicate technical issues and risks clearly, concisely, and transparently across organizational levels.

Responsibilities
- Recruit, coach, develop, and retain technical talent to meet current business needs and build future technical and leadership capabilities.

- Guide teams through technical challenges, escalations, and trade-off decisions while prioritizing patient needs, product quality, and business objectives.
- Build strategic partnerships across Boston Scientific to advance departmental and organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with Clinical, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Process Development, and Test Engineering, as well as external development and manufacturing partners.
- Support project and departmental budget planning, monitor spending, and adjust resource plans to meet business priorities.
- Assess Business Development opportunities, participate in due diligence, and recommend potential business opportunities.
