Senior R&D Extrusion Technician
About The Position
Dura-Line, an Orbia Connectivity Solutions business, is seeking a Senior R&D Extrusion Technician for their Clinton, TN plant. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting the R&D extrusion line used to produce Plastic Conduit, MicroDucts, & FuturePath. The technician will ensure consistent documentation, product quality, efficient machine performance, and adherence to safety and R&D extrusion standards. This position requires limited supervision and may involve guiding less experienced employees. The shift schedule is Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) required
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English sufficient to perform job duties safely and accurately
- Minimum of 2 - 3 years of extrusion experience preferred
- Experience working with polymers, plastics, or resins is a plus
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to complete technical documentation and written reports
Responsibilities
- Set up the extrusion equipment according to product specifications, including installing die head, sizing sleeves, screws, and tooling
- Operate single-screw R&D extrusion lines, ensuring proper startup, steady operation, and shutdown
- Adjust extruders parameters such as temperatures, speeds, pressures, and cooling systems to maintain product quality
- Diagnose and correct issues like die buildup, material contamination, inconsistent melt flow, or equipment malfunctions
- Inspect extruded products for dimensions, appearance, and structural consistency
- Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify that products meet specifications
- Record test results and make necessary machine adjustments to correct defects
- Disassembly and cleaning of all extrusion equipment
- Forklift operation and maintain good housekeeping standards
- Provides solutions to extrusion problems in situations atypical or infrequently occurring based on practice and existing precedents or procedures
