Senior R&D Engineer

Newton Cfv•Sebastian, FL

About The Position

The Senior R&D Engineer is a senior member of the design team at Newton CFV, a Middleby Company. The role leads the design, development, prototyping, and testing of beverage equipment and technologies, from concept through production. It uses SolidWorks to create and refine designs, develops prototypes with 3D printing and other laboratory resources, and tests prototypes to validate performance and functionality. The engineer works with cross-functional teams to evaluate designs, resolve technical challenges, identify improvements and cost reductions, and support product launches. The position combines office-based engineering design with hands-on work in an R&D laboratory and manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Significant experience in mechanical design, product development, and engineering prototyping.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication, 3D printing, and product testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate test results and implement design improvements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing beverage equipment, fluid-handling systems, valves, or foodservice equipment.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability, cost optimization, and product lifecycle development.
  • Familiarity with product validation, testing procedures, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership on design projects.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in R&D team meetings and contribute to product development strategy, design reviews, and project planning.
  • Lead the design and development of new beverage equipment and improvements to existing products.
  • Create 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Build, prototype, assemble, and test parts and equipment in the R&D lab.
  • Design and produce 3D-printed prototypes to evaluate concepts, fit, function, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct prototype testing, analyze results, validate designs, identify issues, and recommend design modifications.
  • Evaluate existing designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other departments to resolve technical challenges and support product launches.
  • Document design changes, test results, and engineering recommendations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other members of the engineering team.
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain an organized, functional R&D lab environment.
