About The Position

The Senior Quality Engineer establishes and maintains customer relationships and satisfaction by understanding customer expectations and coordinating internal efforts to meet them. The role supports quality for assigned product responsibilities through customer and supplier coordination, quality planning documentation, problem solving, nonconformance management, and compliance activities. It also coordinates and mentors Quality Technicians as needed and may involve up to 25% domestic and international travel.

The position is based at Shawmut Corporation’s Port Huron, Michigan facility, which produces composite textile components for automotive and medical device customers. Requirements

• Minimum four-year degree, ASQ Certified Quality Engineer certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least three years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic knowledge of AIAG, VDA, or related quality systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for interfacing with customers, suppliers, and personnel at all organizational levels.
• Ability to work in an international environment.
• High level of computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and ability to manage several tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of basic computer work, standing and sitting in office and manufacturing environments, and potentially manually lifting and moving materials.
• Availability for up to 25% domestic and international travel, if necessary.

Nice To Haves

• Internal Process Auditor experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Interface with customers and suppliers on quality issues for assigned responsibilities.
• Maintain control plans, PFMEAs, inspection and gage instructions, and other assigned quality-plan documentation.
• Lead problem-solving activities for internal and external concerns relating to assigned responsibilities.
• Coordinate Quality Technician activities and train or mentor Quality Technicians as needed.
• Maintain Advanced Quality Planning (APQP) documentation for assigned programs.
• Establish data-collection systems for process, product, and customer feedback.
• Coordinate supplier quality for parts supplied to assigned product units.
• Initiate actions to prevent nonconformances relating to products, processes, and quality systems.
• Identify and record problems relating to products, processes, or quality systems.
• Control further processing and delivery of nonconforming product until deficiencies are corrected.
• Organize retrieval of supplier PPAP information and follow-up activities for customer PPAP submissions.
• Report timelines to management weekly.
• During slow periods, conduct internal and/or external audits against ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949 requirements to maintain compliance.
• Travel domestically and internationally, up to 25% if necessary.
