Senior Quality Engineer

LMI TechnologiesBurnaby, BC
CA$78,000 - CA$111,150Hybrid

About The Position

As the Senior Quality Engineer, you are a strategic owner of the company’s quality frameworks. This role is not about performing technical hardware investigation or component-level troubleshooting; rather, it is about process ownership, systemic accountability, and high-level coordination. You are responsible for the end-to-end design, execution, and continuous improvement of critical operational processes, ensuring that these activities continue to add value to our customers while preventing unnecessary bureaucracy. This is a high-visibility role requiring highly-developed communication skills and the ability to drive cross-functional accountability without direct formal authority. You are expected to identify systemic risks and inefficiencies, propose high-level solutions, and lead complex projects that scale with the company's growth.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of practical experience in Quality Systems, Industrial Engineering, or Operational Excellence. You must have a proven track record of implementing process change, not just troubleshooting hardware.
  • Professional Designation: EIT or ability to register as a P.Eng. with EGBC is required for this role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Certification: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required.
  • Soft Skills: High situational awareness and the ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership toward process discipline without direct authority.
  • Enterprise Systems: Expert-level mastery of NetSuite (ERP) and Autodesk Fusion (PLM) as tools for process enforcement and data intelligence.
  • Data Visualization: Proficiency in Power BI, SQL, or similar tools to build actionable dashboards and reporting structures that identify trends and guide management decisions.
  • Methodologies: Systemic Root Cause Analysis (applied to process failures), FMEA/PFMEA, APQP, and PPAP governance.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Expertise: Direct experience in high-tech electronics, optics, or complex hardware manufacturing is highly preferred, with a focus on systemic oversight.
  • Certification: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is highly preferred. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Auditor (CQA) is a significant asset.

Responsibilities

  • Workflow Architecture: Design, implement, and continuously improve the quality workflows that ensure data integrity, audit readiness, and scalable operational performance.
  • Systems Health: Own the technical health of the Non-Conformance (NCR), MRB, and RMA systems, ensuring physical warehouse reality perfectly matches our digital documentation through regular, hands-on audits.
  • Resource Coordination: Independently navigate resource constraints and coordinate cross-functional resources to maintain process integrity, particularly during production peaks or high-criticality events.
  • Process Velocity: Act as a proactive designer for the quality system, building workflows that ensure high velocity and operational efficiency from the start.
  • Systemic Trend Analysis: Transform field and production data into forward-looking insights, identifying patterns in downstream failures (RMAs) and linking them back to upstream processes (NPI/Design) to drive systemic root-cause fixes.
  • Strategic Decision Support: Translate complex quality data into actionable business cases that guide leadership decisions and justify resource allocation, moving the department from reactive reporting to predictive intelligence.
  • Change Management: Build organizational alignment by serving as the primary liaison between Quality, Engineering, and Production, ensuring that process standards are upheld and systemic accountability is maintained during high-criticality events.
  • The Strategic Pivot: Drive the continuous improvement of quality workflows to ensure scalability. You are responsible for taking underperforming processes to a state of sustained excellence through Lean methodology and automation, then re-deploying your expertise to address the next systemic risk while ensuring long-term, data-driven governance.
  • NPI Readiness: Serve as a core contributor to New Product Introduction (NPI) groups, leveraging historical data to ensure quality frameworks and process controls are fully established prior to mass production.
