Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

HudlLincoln, NE
$82,000 - $137,000Hybrid

About The Position

Hudl is seeking an experienced, automation-focused Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join their North American Sports product team. This team develops insightful analytics and Recruit products for American Football, helping high-level coaches and analysts make faster, data-driven decisions on player performance and talent acquisition. As the testing expert within a cross-functional squad, the engineer will own quality end-to-end, building the strategies and automation that ensure software is shipped that users love. They will drive quality discussions, challenge the team to maintain high standards, and advocate for reliability and performance at every stage of delivery.

Requirements

  • Quality focus: Sees the big picture and uses it to drive improvements in both quality and velocity.
  • Technical depth: 4+ years of software testing experience with hands-on expertise across the full stack (API testing, backend and data-heavy systems, and front-end validation).
  • Proficiency in automation frameworks like Playwright and languages like Python or TypeScript.
  • A track record of leadership: Owned quality for a squad, led testing initiatives end-to-end, defined success criteria, and designed approaches that measurably reduce risk in production.
  • Investigative rigor: Digs to root causes of complex problems, backs findings with data, and measures outcomes.
  • User focus: Thinks critically about the user experience and lets that understanding shape the testing approach.
  • AI-powered working: Actively uses AI tools in day-to-day workflow for test case creation, failure diagnosis, documentation, and beyond, and looks for new ways to apply them.

Nice To Haves

  • Performance testing exposure: Familiarity with load, stress, and scalability testing concepts and tools (e.g. JMeter) for validating API and backend performance.
  • Sports knowledge: Passion for or experience in Basketball, American Football or Ice Hockey — whether as an athlete, coach, or fan — and an appreciation for the unique challenges of sports technology.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience: A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality initiatives, including building risk-based testing strategies, driving quality discussions in scrum ceremonies, challenging defect priorities, and improving quality processes.
  • Test across the full stack, including front-end UI, APIs, backend services, and data pipelines, validating transformations, service outputs, and complex logic.
  • Automate testing by making informed decisions about what, when, and how to automate, using Playwright and scripting to build reliable, maintainable automated checks.
  • Mentor and coach teammates, raise quality standards across the team, and influence the squad's approach to quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Design, contribute to hiring, and invest in professional development.
