About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to applicable auditing standards, including generally accepted government auditing standards and the bureau/department's Audit Policy and Procedures Manual (APPM). The role involves providing administrative support to the bureau/department, performing quality assurance reviews on engagement work papers to ensure findings are fully supported and audit evidence sufficiently supports conclusions and recommendations. Additionally, the position conducts limited testing on action plans to ensure previously issued audit recommendations were implemented, supports the bureau/department's annual risk assessment for the Audit Plan, and provides support and training for the bureau/department's automated audit management software. The role also includes tracking and preparing reports on staff continuing education and tracking the completion of annual independence attestations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or directly related field is required.
  • Four (4) years in auditing, accounting, finance, compliance, risk control, or directly related experience is required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), Institute of Internal Auditor’s (IIA) Global Internal Audit Standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to ascertain compliance with laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Ability to identify possible errors, irregularities, and illegal acts to ascertain compliance with laws and ordinances.
  • Ability to interact with bureau/department personnel in resolving difficult audit issues.
  • Ability to communicate with others objectively and tactfully, both verbally and in written forms.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Visio.
  • Ability to travel to various work locations throughout the County.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and colleagues.
  • Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience conducting audits under General Accepted Government Auditing Standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Global Internal Audit Standards is preferred.
  • Experience conducting performance and/or operational audits of government entities is preferred.
