About The Position

Duke University is seeking a Senior Quad Advisor to play a pivotal role in helping first- and second-year students navigate their academic journey while fostering a sense of belonging, exploration, and success. This role involves serving as a trusted partner to students, mentoring advising colleagues, and contributing to the evolution of Duke's quad-based advising model. The Senior Quad Advisor will provide comprehensive academic advising, supervise advising staff, develop student-centered programming, and collaborate with partners across the university to enhance the undergraduate experience.

Requirements

Master's degree required.
Minimum of five years of professional experience in academic advising, student affairs, higher education administration, or a related educational setting.
Demonstrated experience working with undergraduate students and academic policies.
Expertise in academic advising, curriculum requirements, degree planning, and student success practices.
Experience supervising, mentoring, or developing professional staff.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with diverse student populations.
Commitment to inclusive excellence and culturally responsive advising practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with faculty, staff, and student support offices.
Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience maintaining confidential student records and exercising sound professional judgment.
Proficiency with student information systems, advising technologies, and virtual engagement tools.
Knowledge of FERPA and other relevant privacy and confidentiality regulations.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary academic advisor for first- and second-year students within assigned residential quads.
Guide students in course selection, degree planning, curriculum requirements, major exploration, and academic goal-setting.
Help students understand academic policies, graduation requirements, grading options, and key institutional processes.
Support students through academic challenges and transitions by connecting them with appropriate campus resources and support services.
Maintain accurate, confidential advising records and proactively monitor student academic progress.
Foster student growth through developmental advising practices that encourage independence, decision-making, and self-advocacy.
Educate students about opportunities including undergraduate research, global education, internships, and pre-professional pathways.
Provide inclusive and holistic support that recognizes and values diverse student experiences and identities.
Supervise and mentor Quad Advisors, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support.
Assist in onboarding and training new advising professionals.
Serve as a resource for resolving complex advising situations and promoting advising best practices.
Contribute to a collaborative and supportive advising team culture.
Design and facilitate academic and community-building programs that support student success and engagement.
Partner with faculty-in-residence, faculty fellows, peer mentors, and campus stakeholders to create meaningful educational experiences.
Support orientation programming, workshops, and initiatives aligned with the first- and second-year student experience.
May teach a one-credit course as part of the first-year experience or related academic success curriculum.
Collaborate with Academic Deans, Advising Leadership, faculty advisors, and campus partners to coordinate student support strategies.
Maintain strong working relationships with offices across campus to ensure students receive comprehensive and timely assistance.
Participate in cross-functional meetings, training opportunities, and university initiatives.
Share student insights, trends, and recommendations that contribute to the continuous improvement of advising services.
Support implementation and interpretation of academic policies and procedures.
Contribute to the assessment and enhancement of advising programs and student support services.
Participate in surveys, reporting, and feedback collection efforts.
Stay informed about changes to academic programs, university policies, and student success initiatives.
Serve on committees or lead special projects that advance the goals of Trinity College and Duke University.
Perform other duties as assigned.
