About The Position

The Prince William County Police Department is seeking a Firearms Instructor to join their team of hardworking professionals to provide a high level of training to their members. Firearms instructors are assigned to the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Scenario Based Training Center. They are responsible for providing quality firearms training to all sworn personnel, understanding and applying adult learning concepts to students, and ensuring the day-to-day safety and security of the Firearms range facility. All Firearms instructors act as safety officers during training and must maintain a zero tolerance for range violations. They develop and prepare lesson plans, shooting courses, and handle range and weapon maintenance, among other tasks assigned by the Firearms Range Manager. The selected candidate will work as part of the staff of the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy at the Mike Pennington Scenario Based Training Center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 3 years of related Firearms Training experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass DMV check, polygraph, background investigation and employment physical.
  • Must be proficient in the operation of motor vehicles.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
  • Must have Firearms Instructor experience.
  • Must be able to pass a DCJS, TQC3 course of fire with 90% or better prior to being hired.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or higher degree
  • Experience as a Firearms Instructor
  • Current certification from Virginia DCJS as a General Instructor and Firearms Instructor
  • Experience with law enforcement and Firearms training experience
  • Glock, Remington, and FN armorer's certifications

Responsibilities

  • Providing quality firearms training to all sworn personnel.
  • Understanding and applying adult learning concepts to students.
  • Ensuring the day-to-day safety and security of the Firearms range facility.
  • Acting as safety officers during training and maintaining a zero tolerance for range violations.
  • Developing and preparing lesson plans, shooting courses, range maintenance, and weapon maintenance.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the Firearms Range Manager.
