About The Position

This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. This position reports to the Public Health Nutrition Program Director of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County. This is a professional position requiring a person with training and experience in nutrition/dietetics who is licensed to practice in the state of Florida. The employee implements, coordinates, and supervises Nutrition Services, including Women’s, Infant’s, and Children’s (WIC), in a satellite clinic. This employee functions independently and has responsibility for promoting nutrition services and evaluating the provision of service delivery. Other responsibilities include serving as a consultant to County Health Department staff and allied community health and social agencies, consulting with group feeding facilities, providing peer in-service and community education. This position has a primary work site; however, the employee may work at other locations for training and/or staff relief.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetics, clinical nutrition, nutritional science, community nutrition, food and nutrition, or public health nutrition
  • Licensed Dietitian as outlined in Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 64B8- 40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code
  • Work experience providing nutrition education

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements WIC and Nutrition Services, including the direct supervision of employees, at the main clinic and a satellite clinic. This is performed in accordance with Department of Health Manual (DHM) 150-24, the
  • Routinely monitors and evaluates the performance of other employees through record reviews/audits as directed by program policies and procedures, observations of daily performance, and conferences at least monthly for each employee, more frequently if necessary.
  • Completes annual performance evaluations, including a 6-month review, for all direct reports. Completes position descriptions every three years for all direct reports.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance Monitoring as assigned by the Nutrition Program Director and the State WIC Office.
  • According to DHM 150-24, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for WIC, agency policies and supervisor’s instructions, provides nutrition services to WIC clients.
  • Certifies/recertifies women, infants and children to participate in the WIC program.
  • Performs related work as required
  • Attends professional meetings, conferences and workshops.
  • Maintains professional licensure and required CEU’s
  • Completes supervisory training within 6 months from date of hire
  • Acts as designated Information Custodian for WIC Records – Ringling Clinic data sets.
