About The Position

The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Clay County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. This position serves as the Public Health Nutritionist and works under the general supervision of the Public Health Nutrition Program Director, position #64067271. This position is responsible for the secure collection and/or access to records containing social security numbers and is responsible for implementing the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) at several clinic sites throughout the county as directed by the Public Health Nutrition Program Director. Duties include: Assess anthropometric and dietary data to determine client’s eligibility for the WIC program in accordance with policies of the State WIC program and regulations stated in DHM-150-24. Conduct client nutrition goal setting and provide nutrition counseling to WIC participants using VENA competency. Monitor and follow protocols for nutrition assessment and follow up for high risk/medically high-risk WIC participants. Develop, monitor, evaluate and revise nutrition care plans for individual clients at nutritional risk. Document services in FL WISE System using SOAP charting method. Discuss client’s progress with other professionals. Provide referral and coordinate services to other health care and social service programs such as the FDOH programs, including immunizations, primary care, Healthy Start, etc. Evaluate WIC children immunization records and perform voter’s registration activities as needed. Assess formula needs and make referrals for formula recommendations as appropriate. Assess formula amounts provided by the WIC program. Assist with obtaining up to date and accurate prescriptions from providers. Follow procedures for issuing and reconciling special formula including direct distribution and EBT. Ensuring formula inventories are accurate. Participate in breastfeeding promotion (via one-on-one education or outreach), breastfeeding training and activities (including World Breastfeeding Week), and participate in WIC outreach events, as needed. Perform anthropometric and hemoglobin measurements for clients during WIC certification, recertification, mid-certification, and follow ups when needed. Complete reports such as the Formula Usage report by the required deadlines and distributes the findings to the Public Health Nutrition Program Director and appropriate staff in a timely manner. Provide assistance with training of Dietetic Interns as specified by Public Health Nutrition Program Director. Provide technical assistance on program policies and current nutrition information to FDOH staff. Attends required FDOH meetings and continuing education events to fulfill requirements of Florida Dietetic Licensure. Visits assigned WIC clinics using a county vehicle to ensure adequate program oversight. Perform other related duties as assigned and within the realm of the Classification Specifications of a Public Health Nutritionist. Complete all required forms and reports such as Employee Activity Reports, attendance and leave records, travel expenses, etc. by the required deadlines.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications.
  • Knowledge of States of Florida Personnel Rules and applicable Florida Statues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports timely.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Skilled at data entry.
  • Skilled at being able to prioritize and organize a heavy workload.
  • Detailed-oriented.
  • Skilled at exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in dietetic or food and nutrition related subject.
  • Licensed dietitian/nutritionist in the state of Florida.
  • Willingness to perform emergency duty during disasters, before, during and/or beyond normal working hours.
  • Willing and able to carry up to 25 pounds over uneven ground.
