About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Property Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team. This individual will be responsible for managing full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial properties, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings an understanding of real estate accounting and property management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in property or real estate accounting.
  • Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and real estate accounting principles (e.g., CAM, tenant improvements).
  • Experience with Yardi property management / accounting systems.
  • Familiarity with tenant lease structures, high-end finish-outs, and capital partnership reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for assigned properties.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flows).
  • Perform account reconciliations and variance analyses.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure all entries are properly documented.
  • Collaborate with Asset Management and Property Management teams to ensure accurate reporting of operating performance.
  • Review lease agreements and ensure accurate rent roll, tenant billing, and CAM reconciliations.
  • Support construction draw requests and back-up documentation for properties under development, as applicable.
  • Process and review property-level accruals, fixed asset schedules, and depreciation entries.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and quarterly reforecasting in collaboration with asset and property managers.
  • Track performance against budget and flag any required adjustments.
  • Monitor bank activity, prepare cash reconciliations, and ensure sufficient liquidity across accounts.
  • Assist with cash flow projections and funding requests for capital and operating needs.
  • Manage accounts payable functions for assigned properties, including processing invoices, issuing checks, and setting up ACH/wire payments.
  • Maintain vendor files and respond to vendor inquiries.
  • Review accounts receivable aging and assess collectability; recommend write-offs or reserves as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support external audits and lender reporting by providing necessary schedules and documentation.
  • Prepare and assemble tax workpapers and supporting schedules for annual tax return preparation.
