About The Position

WinnCompanies is seeking a Senior Property Accountant II to join our Property Accounting team located at our Independence Regional Operations in Independence, OH. The Senior Property Accountant I serves as the primary accounting liaison for an assigned portfolio of properties and is responsible for maintaining and interpreting accurate financial records, overseeing critical month end and year end accounting activities, and providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers. This role works independently, supports complex accounting functions, mentors less experienced accountants, and serves as a key resource for accounting operations, financial reporting, audits, cash management, budgeting, and property transitions. The salary range for this role is $70,000.00-$83,000 annually dependent on experience. The selected candidate will adhere to the following hybrid schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00AM / 8:30AM to 5:00PM with the ability for remote work on Thursdays and Fridays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and account reconciliation processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and support other accounting professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Yardi, RealPage, OneSite, or other property management and accounting software platforms.
  • Experience in multifamily housing, affordable housing, commercial real estate, or property management accounting.
  • Experience preparing annual operating budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Experience coordinating external audits and investor or agency reporting requirements.
  • Experience with property acquisitions, dispositions, refinances and property transitions.
  • CPA designation, CPA candidate status, or interest in pursuing professional accounting certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee key accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of properties, including: Bank and escrow reconciliations, Monitoring mortgage, management fee, escrow, real estate tax, and insurance payments, Escrow surplus and deficit analysis, Security deposit monitoring and reconciliations, Month end accrual analysis and journal entries, Prepaid expense reconciliations and supporting schedules, Maintenance of key property accounting records and information, Review and analysis of monthly financial statements for accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements, Preparation of the accounting portion of annual operating budgets, Coordination of audit activities, preparation of audit workpapers, and response to auditor requests.
  • Monitor operating cash balances, reserve adequate funds based on financial analysis, and communicate available cash and funding needs to Operations teams.
  • Function as team leader that coordinates cash analysis process for clients and any other bulk process including annual and bi-annual distribution payments.
  • Function as a coverage for Accounting Supervisors including participate in external financial calls with clients; research & resolve financial issues for less experienced accountants; maintain alternate chart of accounts and special schedules as needed.
  • Assist Accounting Supervisor with property transition; prepare journal entries relating to property acquisition, disposition, refinancing, re-syndication, etc.
  • Onboard, train and mentor less experienced and/or new hired accountants on company policy and procedure.
  • Function as team leader and go to person for other team members.
  • Maintain and update accounting job aids, policy and procedure for primary functions as assigned.
  • Lead and conduct individual and group departmental trainings for various team projects and business initiatives, as necessary.
