Senior Project Manager – Commercial Construction
About The Position
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead commercial and multifamily construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout for a well-established general contractor in the Memphis area. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing project execution, managing client relationships, directing project teams, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The company delivers a diverse portfolio of commercial and multifamily projects averaging $15M–$20M, including industrial facilities, office buildings, retail developments, healthcare facilities, schools, churches, and warehouses. The ideal candidate has successfully managed projects of similar size and complexity in a commercial general contracting environment and is comfortable leading multiple projects simultaneously.
Requirements
- 8–10+ years of commercial or multifamily construction project management experience preferred.
- Strong candidates with 5–6 years of commercial construction experience may also be considered if they have successfully managed large, complex projects.
- Experience working for a commercial general contractor or construction management firm is required.
- Proven experience managing commercial or multifamily construction projects valued at approximately $15M or greater from preconstruction through closeout.
- Experience across project types such as industrial, office, retail, healthcare, education, multifamily, or similar commercial sectors is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, scheduling, budgeting, contracts, procurement, and change order management.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with construction project management software and Microsoft Office.
- Local Memphis candidates are strongly preferred.
- Candidates whose experience is limited to single-family residential construction or small-scale projects will not be considered.
- Successful candidates must pass professional reference checks and a pre-employment drug screening.
Responsibilities
- Lead commercial construction projects from preconstruction through final completion.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, procurement strategies, and overall project execution.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and submittums to ensure successful project execution.
- Negotiate subcontract agreements, manage change orders, and oversee vendor relationships.
- Monitor project costs, identify risks, and implement solutions to maintain profitability and schedule performance.
- Partner with superintendents and field leadership to resolve construction challenges and drive successful project delivery.
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety regulations, quality standards, and applicable building codes.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, progress reports, financial updates, and client communications throughout each phase of construction.
- Mentor project engineers and project managers while promoting collaboration and operational excellence across project teams.
