About The Position

New York Times Cooking is looking for a Project Manager to support and scale our most visible video series and editorial packages. You will join a tight-knit, interdisciplinary team dedicated to helping home cooks discover the world’s best recipes. In this role, you will bring structure and clarity to ambitious projects, creating and managing production schedules that span photo, video, articles, newsletters and social platforms. You will serve as the central owner for process and workflows, allowing editors and talent to focus on creative excellence. You will handle multi-track projects tied to long-term strategic goals that cross different parts of the company — editorial, product, design, marketing and legal teams. You will design workflows, resolve conflicts and escalate issues to leadership when a project hits a blocker. This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in multimedia project management with a focus on projects that span video, photo, written content, newsletters and social.
  • Experience working closely with editorial teams or creative talent in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep understanding of creative workflows across video, social and editorial content.
  • Proficiency in project management platforms; advanced experience with Airtable is a strong plus.
  • An understanding of editorial processes and practices, with the sensibility to flag or escalate copy that’s not reading right.
  • Exceptional diplomacy and discretion when working with high-profile talent and sensitive information.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and keep teams focused during high-stakes launches.
  • A proactive approach to spotting process gaps and solving problems independently.
  • A passion for food, cooking and the mission of The New York Times.

Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain and communicate end-to-end project plans for our biggest editorial projects, including articles, recipes, video, newsletters, social and promo surfaces.
  • Build and manage integrated production calendars and promo schedules, ensuring that all milestones, reviews and launch dates are clearly defined and understood.
  • Document and continuously refine workflows and RACI/ownership maps so that editors, producers, designers, engineers and marketers know how work moves from idea to publication and promotion.
  • Identify dependencies and risks early; surface tradeoffs and drive toward decisions that keep work moving forward.
  • Convene the right stakeholders at the right times (e.g., photo, video, newsletters, social, promo, product, analytics) and keep them accountable for deliverables and deadlines.
  • Facilitate recurring check-ins, kickoffs and retrospectives that help clarify goals, timelines and responsibilities.
  • Maintain a high degree of diplomacy and discretion, enforcing deadlines and priorities while sustaining strong, respectful relationships with editors, talent and cross-functional partners.
  • Help maintain central planning bases, ensuring that information is accurate, up to date and usable for decision-making.
  • Assist with day-to-day promo/programming management, especially around major weeks and seasonal campaigns.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
