The ideal candidate will collaborate with hospital financial executives, clinical documentation teams, and IT professionals to ensure financial operations and cash flow are optimized. The Senior Project Manager will independently manage the entire project lifecycle, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and adhere to Mayo Clinic's project management methodologies. This role is crucial for leading large, strategic projects with significant risk and financial implications, requiring strict adherence to budget management. The position also emphasizes the use of Agile methodologies, including monitoring scrum processes and facilitating team efficiency, motivation, and quality. The Senior Project Manager may also have direct or indirect reports, guiding project staff towards goal achievement and mentoring other staff in project management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 10 years’ experience in Project Management and business-related activities or master's degree with 7 years’ experience in Project Management.
  • Active (unexpired) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required.
  • Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
  • Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Nice To Haves

  • Project management, business administration, agile/scrum, management education preference.
  • Certifications which do not supersede the PMP certification, which may include but are not necessarily limited to Certified Product Management, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner, Risk Management Professional (RMP) and/or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).
  • Ability to facilitate and guide decision-making under high pressure.
  • Ability to track/manage key milestones of projects, initiatives, and programs.
  • Bridges complex IT systems, clinical documentation, and hospital financial performance.
  • Experience leading implementations or optimizations for major Electronic Health Records (EHR) and/or billing software i.e. Epic.

Responsibilities

  • Forms and leads complex, high-impact enterprise projects that span hospital billing systems, electronic health record (EHR) integrations, and process optimization while managing scope, tracking and aligning project milestones.
  • Bridges the gap between hospital financial executives, clinical documentation teams, and IT professionals to safeguard cash flow and optimize financial operations.
  • Works independently, assuming primary responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and delivering project activities through the entire project life cycle (from initiation through handoff to customer) that are major/complex/business critical.
  • Leads project objectives and completion on time, on budget, and in conformance to Mayo Clinic project management methodologies and standards.
  • Leads large projects that have site- or enterprise-level strategic importance.
  • Manages established budget and leads and provides direction in the development and tracking of project budgets.
  • Independently leads problem-solving and decision-making activities, within the scope of the project and change management process.
  • Uses advanced negotiations skills that are characterized by innovative thinking.
  • Monitors scrum processes and scrum meetings.
  • Works to increase efficiency, motivate the team, and advocate for changes that will ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Guides teams on Agile practices and values to implement critical projects.
  • Assesses maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable.
  • Removes impediments and blockers or guides the team to do so; escalating to management when appropriate.
  • Builds a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised and resolved.
  • Facilitates getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
  • Facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
  • Supports and educates the Product Owner, especially on creating the product backlog and ongoing backlog refinement.
  • May have direct and indirect reports and be in a position to employ and guide the project staff in a goal-oriented way within projects.
  • Leads and demonstrates project-focused culture at Mayo Clinic.
  • Advises/provides mentorship to other staff regarding project management practices, methods, and standards.
  • Performs additional job-related functions as detailed by immediate supervisor.
