About The Position

Lochmueller Group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their Transportation Team. This role will initially focus on managing various transportation projects, with a long-term goal of expanding the company's major project capabilities. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for leading pursuits, mentoring other project managers, and ensuring the successful execution of large, complex, and alternative delivery projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management expertise in major transportation projects, the ability to collaborate across disciplines, develop talent, support business growth, and contribute to the successful delivery of complex transportation projects. Lochmueller Group is an engineering consulting firm specializing in infrastructure, offering multi-disciplined services including transportation design, water resources design, environmental analysis & permitting, construction engineering & inspection, traffic engineering & transportation planning, surveying, and land acquisition & appraisal. Their transportation design team primarily focuses on roadway and bridge design for local public agencies and state DOTs. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Extensive and progressive experience managing major transportation projects
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and client relationships
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with transportation agencies such as state DOTs, local agencies, and/or transportation authorities

Nice To Haves

  • DBIA certification is preferred, but not required
  • Experience delivering design-build, progressive design-build, or other alternative delivery projects is preferred
  • Experience mentoring and developing project managers and technical staff is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage transportation projects through all phases of planning, design, and delivery.
  • Lead project teams in managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client expectations.
  • Oversee project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, contract administration, and variance management.
  • Apply and reinforce quality control procedures, technical standards, and risk management practices.
  • Promote consistent project management best practices across teams and offices.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal teams and clients while ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Support pursuits and delivery planning for major transportation projects.
  • Contribute to design-build and other alternative delivery pursuits by helping develop delivery strategies, execution plans, and team structures.
  • Serve as Project Manager on select design-build, construction manager/general contractor (CMGC), progressive design-build, or other alternative delivery projects.
  • Advise project teams on contract structures, partnering approaches, risk allocation, and coordination with contractors and teaming partners.
  • Help strengthen the firm's capabilities and readiness for increasingly complex transportation opportunities.
  • Mentor and coach Project Managers and Deputy Project Managers across the Transportation Sector.
  • Share best practices related to project delivery, client communication, financial management, and risk mitigation.
  • Support the professional development of transportation staff through coaching, knowledge sharing, and succession planning efforts.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence.
  • Lead or support pursuit strategy, proposal development, and interview preparation for transportation opportunities.
  • Provide project delivery insights that strengthen competitive positioning and win strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships as a primary point of contact on assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with market leaders and transportation leadership to identify and pursue growth opportunities.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, emerging delivery methods, and transportation innovations.
