About The Position

UTHealth Houston is seeking a Senior-Level Project Manager to work on Artificial Intelligence Governance for their Enterprise Information Technology team. This role involves participating in and interacting with four committees focused on AI governance for the institution. The position requires performing cross-functional, enterprise-level project management, with responsibility for the development, oversight, and implementation of project management activities supporting the Central IT Chief Information Office (CIO). The Project Manager will utilize extensive project management skills to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of project deliverables to meet stakeholder objectives. This role works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. The Project Manager will collaborate with internally developed LLMs and interact with vendors supplying Artificial Intelligence to schools and clinics, including obtaining approvals, directing people to resources, and mitigating AI-related risks. While technical design of LLMs is not required, a strong understanding of how they work and their general terms of use is necessary. The core of this assignment requires a strong project manager. This role will operate on a hybrid schedule, requiring one to two days per week in the office, and necessitates residing close enough for the commute. The team includes eight other project managers, and this position has no direct reports. The office will be located in the McGovern Medical School. Requirements

  • Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and experience in governance in Information Technology is required.
  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, or related discipline or related experience in lieu of education.
  • Eight years of IT and team management experience, including oversight of technology or business improvement projects, and management experience required.
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple complex projects while effectively organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating work assignments.
  • Manage technology and business process improvement projects and contracts.
  • Develop effective plans and meet deadlines.
  • Obtain and maintain a clear understanding of all appropriate legal and contractual matters related to projects.
  • Ensure project initiation is well defined, including a detailed review of customer expectations, business drivers, requirements, design, SLAs, and success metrics.
  • Keep projects on track while managing risks and controlling quality.
  • Provide effective leadership, guidance, and critical communications to project team(s) as appropriate while promoting and contributing to a cohesive team environment.
  • Monitor the performance of project team resources.
  • Make recommendations for and/or facilitate problem resolution where appropriate.
  • Provide input to HR aspects of managed resources when requested.
  • Work with management, vendors, customers, and IT staff to coordinate, plan, assign, and review project plans and deliverables, with responsibility for the successful implementation and completion of assigned projects.
  • Initiate internal, enterprise-level projects as requested, obtain authorization and commitment, and ensure that projects demonstrate business need and feasibility.
  • Stay abreast of current emerging project management technologies as necessary.
  • Provide project management advising as needed or requested for internal and external project resources.
  • Analyze established project management procedures for continual improvement.
  • Facilitate and/or make recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate schedules and reports.
  • Perform evaluation, interpretation, and effective presentations of pertinent data.
  • Communicate project status routinely to stakeholders; ensure delivery timelines are met, and projects are implemented within budget.
  • Provide support to the CIO in the management of the enterprise project portfolio and the deployment of added services, solutions, and technologies to ensure department objectives are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
