About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) seeks a Project Executive (Construction) for its Borough Based Jails (BBJ) Division. The Sr. Project Executive will oversee all aspects of the construction process for the design-build capital program compromised of four Borough-based facilities, valued at $16 billion. The selected candidate will oversee the Program Management Consultant (PMC) firm’s construction staff and DDC construction staff, for compliance with all applicable codes, rules, and regulations of NYC/NYS’s governing agencies, including Design-Build Contractors throughout the planning, design and construction phases. The selected candidate will provide oversight of the PMC and secure the cooperation of sponsor agencies throughout all phases of project development, and implementation of design-build excellence principles, as well as preparation of performance specifications, and all associated contract documents for all BBJ buildings. The Sr. Project Executive will supervise multiple BBJ project construction executives and project managers to ensure adherence to contract documents and collaborate to ensure that projects remain on schedule and on budget. Other key responsibilities include working with the Assistant Commissioner, Executive Director, Program Executives, and supervisors to implement tiered project delivery methodology. The Sr. Project Executive must possess thorough understanding of applicable construction best practices, including construction management principles with clear accountability for the construction teams and their staffs. In addition, the selected candidate will have extensive interaction with the Public Design Commission, Department of City Planning, Department of Buildings, and other City agencies, NY State agencies, and Community Boards, as well as multiple City Sponsor Agencies.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
  • A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience as described in '1' above; two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2' above.
  • All candidates must have the two years of the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in '1' above.
  • Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.).
  • Original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. must be presented.
  • Proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
