The Senior Project Engineer is the technical information source for the project, requiring a thorough knowledge of construction documents, subcontracts, and purchase orders. This role involves responding to inquiries about drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and change orders, and maintaining professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. The position may also involve assisting with the supervision and training of Field Engineers. This role has three progression steps (I, II, and Senior), with the Senior step designated for employees with over 6 years of experience or experience on larger/more complex projects.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, and standards.
  • In-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between functional units.
  • Four-year construction-related degree or equivalent technical training and related experience.
  • Minimum of three to four years of similar construction engineering experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied disciplines.
  • Skill/ability to supervise and/or train Field Engineer positions if required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of project management plan components (scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, risk) for successful project execution and change management.
  • Develops a procurement schedule integrated with the project CPM schedule, procures necessary materials and equipment, coordinates submittals, and reviews them for compliance with contract documents.
  • Understands prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase order agreements, allowance items, contract drawings, and specifications. Manages budgeting and cost control to stay within budget, demonstrating business acumen.
  • Maintains 'As-built' contract documents and compiles close-out requirements, including O&M manuals and warranties.
  • May participate in concrete form design and related equipment selection, and performs takeoffs for concrete, asphalt concrete, earthwork, and utilities.
  • Plans, acquires, develops, and supervises project team members for effective project execution.
  • Prepares and maintains quantity reporting, coordinates meeting agendas, prepares minutes, and manages project logs.
  • Prepares and reviews change orders, including time extensions, with appropriate personnel before owner submittal. Maintains change order log, distributes executed change orders, and prepares cost control budget adjustments.
  • Prevents claims, identifies potential claims, quantifies, and mitigates/resolves claims in a timely manner.
