Reporting to the Senior Manager, Business Development, the Senior Project Engineer is a key technical contributor supporting the engineering and project development lifecycle for wind, solar, gas generation, BESS, and hydrogen projects. Working within Atura Power’s multi‑technology development portfolio, this role integrates technical assessment, early‑stage engineering, due diligence, and project definition to advance opportunities from concept through FEED and into pre‑construction. The Senior Project Engineer works closely with Commercial, Asset Management, Operations, Finance, Indigenous Relations, Environmental, and other internal and external business functions while ensuring ongoing technical integrity and alignment with Atura Power’s growth strategy. Success in this role depends on strong analytical capability, sound judgment, structured communication, and the ability to synthesize complex technical, commercial, and regulatory inputs into clear recommendations for business development leadership.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, Civil, Power, Energy Systems, or related discipline.
  • 8 to 10 years of engineering experience in wind, solar, thermal, or storage development with a focus on wind power development being preferred
  • Experience deploying LiDAR and met tower installations through the regulatory and permitting processes
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, thermal generation, interconnection processes, performance modelling, and OEM evaluation.
  • Experience creating design packages, engineering scopes, project specifications, and reviewing consultant/OEM deliverables.
  • Strong analytical capability with ability to synthesize technical, commercial, and regulatory inputs.
  • Proficiency in engineering and assessment tools (e.g., PVSyst, WAsP, Helioscope, ETAP, ArcGIS, AutoCAD) is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and within multi‑disciplinary business development teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, Civil, Power, Energy Systems, or related discipline.
  • 8 to 10 years of progressive analytical experience in energy, utilities, infrastructure, or related sectors.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally for meetings, site visits, or engagement sessions.
  • Ability to successfully complete a security clearance/criminal record check.

Nice To Haves

  • Significant experience in wind power development – from early stage development through to construction and commercial operations
  • Knowledge of techno‑economic modelling and early‑stage project valuation.
  • Familiarity with GIS tools for site screening and analysis.
  • Experience with regulatory, permitting, environmental review, or interconnection processes.
  • Exposure to partnership modelling (including equity arrangements), acquisition due diligence, or commercial structuring.
  • Certificates such as PMP, CEM, or related technical credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering development for wind, solar, thermal, and storage projects through all business development lifecycle stages, including feasibility, conceptual design, FEED, and pre‑construction.
  • Lead development of project specifications, engineering scopes, and technical definition documents supporting RFPs, OEM engagement, and EPC tendering.
  • Review and validate vendor studies, OEM performance data, interconnection packages, environmental/engineering reports, and consultant deliverables.
  • Lead or support technical due diligence related to resource assessment, technology selection, equipment configuration, and system performance modelling.
  • Prepare and review models, calculations, one‑line diagrams, technology configurations, conceptual layouts, and design reports.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed engineering inputs (e.g., CAPEX/OPEX estimates, performance assumptions, degradation rates, balance‑of‑plant considerations).
  • Conduct risk assessments across technical, permitting, interconnection, construction, supply chain, and schedule domains.
  • Provide technical inputs into site evaluations, GIS screening, land assessments, environmental studies, and interconnection strategies.
  • Support the business development team in forming project business case summaries, bid strategies, development briefs, and technical components of proposal submissions.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams (Environmental, Operations, Indigenous Relations, Stakeholder Relations, Finance, etc.) to ensure alignment across engineering deliverables.
  • Coordinate and manage technical work from consultants, engineering firms, and OEMs.
  • Provide on‑site technical oversight during early works, surveys, engineering investigations, and pre‑construction activities when required.
  • Recommend best practices for engineering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning readiness.
