About The Position

Syntax is seeking a Senior Project Controller to provide financial and operational oversight across complex projects and programs. This role is responsible for supporting project planning, budget tracking, forecasting, reporting, and performance analysis to ensure strong governance, margin protection, and timely decision-making. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers, finance teams, and business leaders to maintain accuracy, transparency, and control throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in project controlling, project finance, or related financial management roles.
  • Strong understanding of project budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and profitability tracking.
  • Experience supporting complex, multi-phase projects or programs in a consulting, technology, or services environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with financial reporting tools, spreadsheets, and project accounting systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, finance teams, and leadership stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and drive financial discipline across projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an IT services, consulting, or enterprise transformation environment.
  • Familiarity with SAP project financials, PSA, or related ERP/project accounting tools.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition principles and project governance practices.
  • Experience supporting global or cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project controlling activities across assigned projects and programs, ensuring accurate financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Partner with project managers to track budgets, actuals, forecasts, accruals, and cost-to-complete metrics.
  • Prepare and analyze project financial reports, including variance analysis, margin performance, and risk assessments.
  • Support project planning and forecasting processes to ensure timely and reliable financial visibility.
  • Monitor revenue recognition, costs, billing, and project profitability in alignment with internal policies and controls.
  • Identify financial risks, issues, and opportunities, and recommend corrective actions where needed.
  • Collaborate with finance, delivery, and operational teams to ensure consistency in reporting and forecasting.
  • Support monthly and quarterly close activities related to project financials.
  • Maintain accurate project data within financial and reporting systems.
  • Assist with governance processes, audits, and compliance requirements as applicable.
  • Develop and improve reporting tools, templates, and processes to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams on financial best practices and project control procedures.
