Senior Project Architect - Healthcare
About The Position
Perkins&Will is seeking a Senior Project Architect for its growing San Francisco studio. The role leads healthcare projects through all phases of design and delivery, applying strong technical, project-management, and design expertise while meeting firm standards and project goals. The position includes oversight of documentation, quality control and assurance, coordination, regulatory reviews, construction contract administration, client communications, and team performance. The architect also contributes to marketing pursuits and proposal preparation, leads collaborative design reviews, and mentors staff. The position requires 10–15+ years of experience, including at least seven years delivering healthcare projects in California, including inpatient medical facilities, and OSHPD1/HCAI experience. A bachelor's degree in architecture or a related discipline and an architectural license are required. The successful candidate must obtain LEED GA within six months of hire and one additional professional accreditation in a Living Design area within one year of hire.
Requirements
- 10–15+ years of experience.
- 7+ years of experience delivering healthcare projects in California, including inpatient medical facilities.
- OSHPD1/HCAI experience.
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or a related discipline.
- Architectural license.
- Obtain LEED GA within six months of hire.
- Obtain a professional accreditation in one Living Design area within one year of hire: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer (CPHC/CPHD), or ILFI Living Future Accreditation.
- Proficiency in building, zoning, and energy codes.
- Proficiency in site analysis and preliminary design studies.
- Proficiency in contract documents and specifications.
- Proficiency in construction contract administration.
- Proficiency in project team organization and management.
- Proficiency in consultant coordination and client communication.
- Advanced Revit proficiency.
- Experience with BIM collaboration software such as Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu and Bluebeam Studio.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including presentation skills using InDesign and Photoshop.
Nice To Haves
- AutoCAD proficiency.
- Experience with conceptual and computational modeling tools such as Rhino, including Grasshopper scripting.
- Experience with visualization tools such as Enscape, Lumion, and VRay.
- Experience with physical modeling tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
- Experience with environmental analysis software such as Pollination Ladybug and Climate Studio.
Responsibilities
- Lead all phases of the design process in accordance with firm and project goals and standards for design, project management, execution, and living design.
- Understand and respond to technical implications, design decisions, and project financial goals.
- Lead and participate in project documentation development and production of deliverable drawings and specifications.
- Oversee quality-control reviews at each phase to ensure conformance with firm standards, contractual obligations, and project design intent, focusing on quality, accuracy, legibility, completeness, and constructability.
- Direct project quality-assurance efforts and ensure adherence to Perkins&Will standards.
- Coordinate effectively among internal disciplines, including architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture, and with external consultants.
- Communicate with clients about project technical matters.
- Oversee regulatory reviews, including building code, accessibility, and zoning, and coordinate submissions to authorities having jurisdiction.
- Ensure effective and efficient team performance of construction contract administration responsibilities.
- Maintain awareness of evolving building technology and engineering systems relevant to project work.
- Contribute to project marketing pursuits, proposal preparation, and interviews.
- Lead collaborative teams in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups.
- Use strong communication, decision-making, and collaboration to inspire high team performance.
- Mentor staff and provide oversight of assignments.
