About The Position

Werfen is seeking a Senior Program Manager for R&D in the Medical Device sector. This role involves planning and managing large, multi-functional product development projects or several smaller ones simultaneously. The position requires strong leadership in a technical medical instrument product development environment, with potential to supervise program and project managers. The Senior Program Manager will participate in business strategic planning, represent current projects, and implement business strategy. This role demands regular interaction across all organizational functions and levels, from R&D scientists and engineers to executive management. The Senior Program Manager will direct program and project teams to achieve business results, forecast program outcomes, and seek guidance for complex issues beyond approved boundaries. The authority of the position is limited to assigned duties unless expressly reserved by senior management or company policy.

Requirements

  • BS in STEM or management discipline or MS/MBA.
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably in product development.
  • At least 5 years of successful technical leadership, project coordination, or project management.
  • Full and comprehensive knowledge of the complete product lifecycle, including all aspects of product development from conception to manufacturing introduction.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and team leadership to one or more large project team(s) or program team(s), including planning, scheduling, work assignment, and technical support.
  • Drive the successful attainment of program goals.
  • Responsible for project or program planning and scheduling, defining scope, utilizing milestone methods and critical path scheduling, conducting resource planning and allocation, and developing task and project estimates.
  • Generate integrated project plans that meet business objectives, comply with design control processes, and maximize resource efficiency.
  • Conduct regular project or program team status meetings and reviews, ensuring deliverables are completed and documented.
  • Identify and implement changes to program and project plans within approved boundaries.
  • Plan and conduct major program and supporting project and milestone reviews.
  • Participate in decision-making regarding the use of Agile methodology and ensure adequate resources for Agile projects.
  • Coordinate program and project resources to identify root causes of issues and develop/manage plans for solutions.
  • Ensure program and project risks (technical and management) are identified and mitigation plans are included in project plans.
  • Regularly assess and report on overall program risk, identify risk trends, and develop mitigation strategies for systemic risks.
  • Create and maintain design control files, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Design Control practices.
  • Manage program communication within project teams and with executive management.
  • Ensure adequate oversight and control of vendors providing development, test, or technical services.
  • Establish communication channels with commercial functions, support teams, and infrastructure for successful on-market changes and new product introductions.
  • Use input from commercial functions to influence and execute program plans.
  • Resolve program and project team conflicts through effective listening and negotiation skills.
  • Foster a creative, professional climate to maximize contributions from technical staff.
  • Ensure adequate equipment and material resources are available for program and project advancement.
  • Work with other managers to ensure optimal use of shared resources.
  • Demonstrate functional management expertise in developing, mentoring, and coaching others.
  • Work with functional management on skills/gap assessments and conduct coaching for project core team members.
  • Provide direct supervision to Program Managers and Project Managers assigned to the program.
  • Lead activities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of product development processes and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain budgets for the portfolio of programs and projects.
  • Manage an annual budget between $5 million and $10 million.
  • Work with functional management to conduct performance appraisals and coaching for project core team members.
  • Provide regular supervision for assigned Project/Program Manager(s).
  • Coordinate review of documentation with Quality and Regulatory disciplines.
  • Communicate product changes with Manufacturing/Operations disciplines.
  • Communicate plans and status of projects with Marketing discipline.
  • Communicate plans and status with other programs and projects within R&D.
