About The Position

This position supports NEA’s strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by performing high-level and detailed administrative and financial support to the Center for Advocacy and Political Action (CAPA). The essential functions of this position include providing high-level specialized program expertise, as well as serving as an administrative and financial resource for Center for Advocacy and Political Action programs and projects. The incumbent writes and edits departmental reports, processes vendors, consultants, and travel transactions, and researches and synthesizes departmental financial data. As needed, the incumbent will collaborate with the teams within Business Financial Services. The incumbent supports the Center’s daily financial operations with a strong focus on bank reconciliation, cash receipt preparation, accounts receivable and accounts payable processes. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of financial transactions while assisting with the Unified Legal Services Program reimbursements, PAC funding, and Government Relations activities, and maintaining clear communication across internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent also works closely with the Center for Advocacy and Political Action Manager for Business Affairs in providing the Center with support including, but not limited to, developing tracking systems for various departmental reports; coordinating department projects and implementing NEA policies and procedures. The incumbent processes and tracks contractor and vendor contracts and payments; processes financial transactions; prepares departmental spreadsheets; and develops and maintains databases. To carry out these responsibilities, the incumbent uses a computer and/or laptop, associated software, and travels occasionally. This position is based in Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Business Administration, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be obtained.
  • Three years of progressively responsible financial experience.
  • Experience must include database development for financial purposes, reviewing, and analyzing accounts and expenditures, developing organizational budgets, designing financial presentations, and resolving multi-faceted problems concerning financial matters.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends.
  • Some travel required.
  • Proven experience providing specialized program, administrative, and financial support, including accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills to interact with all levels of staff and governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple and complex tasks simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing conditions.
  • Demonstrated use of sound judgment for decision-making and ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create reports and resources for purposes of tracking work.
