About The Position

BGC Okanagan is seeking a part-time Senior Program Area Leader for our School Aged Child Care Program at Davidson Road Elementary in Lake Country, BC. As the Senior Program Area Leader, you will plan and deliver a range of recreational, social, and educational activities that reflect and maintain the agency’s best practices and philosophy.

Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in recreation, education, social services, or a related field, and/or relevant experience working with children or youth
  • Completion of at least 20 hours of coursework in areas such as child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (required for licensed programs)
  • A minimum of one (1) year of recent, related experience
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence (or willingness to obtain)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned program, including developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating plans that meet the needs of children, youth, and families.
  • Serve as the Licensed Manager in accordance with Child Care Licensing Regulations, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, guide, and lead program staff, when applicable, to support high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide daily direction and performance feedback to program staff and volunteers.
  • Directly supervise program members, ensuring their health, safety, and overall well-being.
  • Create and distribute program activity calendars for members and families.
  • Complete general administrative tasks, including data entry for attendance and calendars.
  • Orient new families and members to the program and the Club.
  • Build relationships with the children, youth, and families within their designated programs. Establishes open communication with parents/caregivers. Identifies families who require additional support and connects them with appropriate resources.
  • Provides group and/or individual behavior management and support.
  • Conduct monthly and weekly audits and inspections, including reviewing participant files, play space checklists, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure all Agency Policies and Procedures, Program Operating Standards, WCB standards, Community Care Licensing Regulations, Risk Management requirements, and general safety standards are consistently met and followed by all staff.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment to support effective program operations.
