This position is accountable for all aspects of complaint procedures, both internal and external for all of the peace officers within the Community Standards Branch. It ensures that all aspects of the complaint procedures/process are in compliance with the Peace Officer Act, the Peace Officer Ministerial Regulation, all other legislation and associated policies. This position is required to conduct complex investigations, conduct interviews, initiate dispute resolution, formulate unique solutions related to conflict, and review and report on transactional use of force incidents. This position engages in frequent contact and partnerships with external agencies including the Edmonton Police Service, the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services, as well as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as they address complaints or incident files (including discharge of weapons, death or grievous bodily harm, etc.). This position will also process peace officer and bylaw officer appointments along with police and vulnerable sector screening checks.
