About The Position

The Senior Production Geologist role is a senior-level position within the mine technical services team, reporting directly to the Chief Geologist. This role involves supervising the production geology staff, facilitating geological communication between engineering, operations, and geology groups to ensure appropriate plans are developed and executed. The position requires maintaining an expert-level understanding of the geology of all active and upcoming mining areas, reviewing and providing geologic feedback and approval of engineering plans, producing monthly reports including reconciliations, maintaining the production database, and covering production geology duties when geologists are on vacation. The Greens Creek mine is a world-class VMS deposit known for its high-grade, polymetallic nature and extreme structural complexity, making the production geology group a critical part of the mining process. This role seeks a highly motivated candidate comfortable with providing supervision and mentoring to a group of geologists to safely and successfully support the mining effort.

Requirements

B.S. in Geological Engineering, Geology or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four or more years of experience in the mining industry.
Experience and familiarity with job functions as described.
Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, Micromine, or similar) to display data, plan drillholes, and perform geologic modeling.
Proficiency with Deswik.CAD and Deswik.Mapping.
Capable of working independently as well as within a team environment.
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills.
Strong written communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy.
Ability to stay organized and effectively manage data in a dynamic work environment.
Proficient with MS office applications.
Proficient with acQuire database software.
Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Pass a position-specific physical demands assessment.
Must possess current authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Supervise the production geology team.
Facilitate geological communication between engineering, operations, and geology groups.
Develop and execute plans to maintain production and profitability.
Organize, schedule, and prioritize work activities at the mine site.
Coordinate the efforts of Production Geology to ensure the short-range mine plan is implemented.
Provide consistent and accurate direction to underground operations.
Provide supervision and mentoring of a group of geologists.
Act as the primary point of contact for all matters related to production geology.
Manage personnel matters for the Production Geology team, including scheduling and performance evaluations.
Ensure the safety of the team by observing safety procedures and ensuring proper training.
Provide additional support through safety meetings and regular safety interactions.
Maintain an expert-level understanding of the geology of all active and upcoming mining areas.
Review and provide geologic feedback and approval of engineering plans.
Provide stope and pre-production drilling suggestions and designs.
Work alongside the Resource Modeling team to ensure accurate production data transfer.
Ensure face sampling is standardized and of sufficient quality and quantity.
Manage, notify, report, and investigate incidents and hazards.
Manage compliance with safety and health requirements.
Manage compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
Verify that personnel hold the appropriate qualifications and licenses.
Monitor the safe use and control of all tools and equipment.
Promote and assist in the implementation of site safety initiatives.
Attend and monitor pre-start and toolbox meetings.
Assist in preparing and contributing to monthly safety, health, and environmental reporting.
Ensure the Production Geologists are properly implementing the short-range mine plan.
Ensure face and back mapping is compiled onto working sections and plans.
Ensure information on working sections and plans is brought into Deswik and LeapFrog.
Work with the resource geologist to ensure complicated stope-scale structures and observations are reflected in models.
Coordinate and report on mine/mill reconciliations monthly.
Estimate tons and grade of ore shipped from each stope.
Calculate waste and fill dilution in each stope.
Report reconciliation to the mill using standard formats.
Formulate and maintain QA/QC program for grade-control samples.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports detailing QA/QC program results.
Other duties as assigned.
