Independently plans material work orders in synchronization with the dock plan and customer orders. Plans and monitors the flow of materials from the receipt of demand through the manufacturing process. Works with the Master Scheduler, other planners, and program management to ensure customer requirements, production schedules and milestones are met.

Requirements

  • Fluent and proficient in the practical application of MRP logic, scheduling logic, order policies and modifiers, bills of material, routing, kanban material flow, capacity planning, customer required inventory replenishment systems, and other manufacturing strategies.
  • General understanding and ability to read blueprints.
  • Must be a team player with sound judgment and analytical skills as well as a team leader.
  • Intermediate to advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office software and manufacturing MRP/ERP planning systems.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Read, write and understand the English language.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers/suppliers as well as handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work assigned schedule with minimal absences.

Nice To Haves

  • APICS Certified (CPIM or CSCP) preferred.
  • Other industry specific training and certification helpful: Lean, Six Sigma, RCCA.

Responsibilities

  • Plans production work orders based on MRP requirements and customers specifications.
  • Reviews and releases work orders to production.
  • Prepare shop floor packets for each work order.
  • Plans and reschedules open orders to support changes in MRP demand and availability of capacity.
  • Develops, updates and maintains status reports and lines of balance (LOB).
  • Identifies shortages and follows up with the responsible buyer or planner.
  • Proactively communicates foreseeable issues to next level planners and/or program management.
  • Investigates and resolves issues related to past due shipments/work orders and material shortages.
  • Ability to analyze data and generate reports.
  • Expert understanding of accountancy variances cost drivers.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP applications & systems and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve variances and other planning factors which may be producing inaccurate data.
  • Maintains planning factors for MRP including but not limited to safety stock, lead-time, order multipliers, minimum order quantity.
  • Participates in corrective action boards (CAB) when invited and actively engage in the root cause analysis process by finding and implementing solutions.
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement teams/events related specifically to planning and scheduling.
  • Solid understanding and ability to affect positive change using continuous improvement tools and techniques such as but not limited to: kanban, kaizen, one-piece flow, value stream mapping, integrated product teams, theory of constraints, 6S, RCCA, Lean, and inventory reduction.
  • Coordinates changes to routing instructions and bills of materials with M.E. and engineering when necessary.
  • Updates work center data on released orders to align with master schedule and available capacity.
  • Reviews capacity and make decisions based on the data.
  • Elevates recommendations for changes and improvements to the Master Scheduler.
  • Coordinates with manufacturing, purchasing, quality, engineering, sales, and other support teams to alleviate constraints to on-time delivery.
  • Works with program management and engineering to plan and schedule new products through the NPI process without adversely affecting current production.
  • Understands and follows First Article Process.
  • Understands and participates in the SIOP process to plan and schedule with a strategic focus.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Takes appropriate action to release replacement work orders for defective product, damaged product, scrapped products, inventory shortages, etc. and provides recovery plans with dates.
  • Assists with training, development and mentoring of level 1 Planners.
  • Frequently reviews quarterly requirements and elevates any risk to the quarterly plan.
  • Applies strategic thinking to look beyond the quarter to make decisions, anticipate future problems and work towards solutions.
  • When requested, participates in customer conference calls and customer visits to share information related to schedules, assist with meeting customer needs, and build positive customer relations.
