Senior Product Owner / Product Manger
About The Position
Schwab Retirement Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner / Product Manager to help shape and deliver digital experiences for retirement plan participants, sponsors, and advisors. This role will play a key part in advancing our participant web and mobile platforms, including modernization of the participant dashboard and ongoing mobile application enhancements. The Product Owner will partner closely with engineering, UX, architecture, and business stakeholders to define priorities, manage the product backlog, and translate customer and business needs into actionable user stories. The successful candidate will balance strategic thinking with execution, ensuring Agile teams are focused on delivering high-value solutions while identifying future opportunities to improve the participant experience.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Product Owner, Product Management, Business Analysis, or related Agile delivery experience.
- Proven experience managing and prioritizing product backlogs in Agile environments.
- Strong user story writing, requirements gathering, and backlog refinement skills.
- Experience delivering customer-facing digital products, including web or mobile applications.
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic roadmap planning with day-to-day execution responsibilities.
- Experience partnering closely with software engineers, architects, UX professionals, and QA teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence decisions without direct authority.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments where collaboration, ownership, and customer focus are critical to success.
- Ability to quickly learn complex business domains and translate customer and business needs into product outcomes.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in financial services, retirement services, brokerage, fintech, or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of retirement recordkeeping, defined contribution plans, or 401(k) administration.
- Experience supporting participant-facing or customer-facing digital experiences.
- Experience working with mobile applications and responsive web platforms.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks such as SAFe and participation in PI Planning activities.
- Experience collaborating with third-party vendors and external technology partners.
- Understanding of customer journey mapping, digital experience design, and usability best practices.
- Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Rally, and Figma.
- Demonstrated success owning products through modernization, transformation, or digital enhancement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Own, prioritize, and maintain the Agile team backlog, ensuring work is aligned to customer needs, business objectives, and product strategy.
- Develop and refine user stories and acceptance criteria that provide clear direction to engineering and QA teams.
- Partner with engineers, architects, UX designers, and Scrum Masters to deliver high-quality web and mobile experiences.
- Support key initiatives including participant dashboard modernization and continued enhancement of the participant mobile application.
- Participate in discovery efforts to better understand customer needs, pain points, and opportunities for innovation.
- Collaborate with clients, participants, and vendor partners to gather feedback and incorporate insights into product decisions.
- Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, and other Agile ceremonies while helping ensure predictable delivery and strong backlog health.
- Monitor product performance and proactively identify future enhancements that improve the overall participant experience.
