Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech We are looking for a Senior OS Development Engineer with expertise in Linux and embedded operating systems, along with experience in DevOps practices. This is an OS engineering focused role, with DevOps capabilities supporting automation, scalability, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 6 plus years of experience in Linux or embedded OS development
  • Experience working with Linux kernel, drivers, and system internals
  • Experience delivering production grade OS platforms
  • Experience with Ubuntu, Yocto, or QNX
  • Experience building and customizing OS images, bootloaders, and system configuration
  • Experience in either kernel level development or BSP development for embedded or ARM based platforms
  • Familiarity with cryptographic signing and root of trust concepts

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building CI CD pipelines using Jenkins
  • Experience with Docker based environments and AWS or similar cloud platforms
  • Experience maintaining toolchains and cross compilation environments
  • Familiarity with build systems such as CMake, Bazel, or Yocto
  • Experience working with vulnerability management or security scanning tools
  • Familiarity with code quality such as SonarQube or Coverity
  • Experience with artifact management tools such as Artifactory or Nexus
  • Exposure to Kubernetes or Terraform
  • Exposure to AI ML workflows
  • Experience in regulated environments

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain operating systems across Ubuntu x86 x64, Yocto, and QNX platforms
  • Work at the kernel and system level including configuration, patching, performance tuning, and debugging
  • Develop and support BSPs for embedded and ARM based platforms such as i.MX8
  • Lead OS bring up, customization, and validation for new hardware
  • Build and maintain OS images, bootloader, and system services
  • Apply OS security practices including secure boot, system hardening, access control, and vulnerability remediation
  • Identify and address OS level security risks including CVE management and patching
  • Improve OS build systems, toolchains, and automation workflows
  • Build and optimize CI CD pipelines using Jenkins
  • Support Docker based build environments and cloud infrastructure such as AWS
  • Automate workflows using Python and Bash
  • Partner with software, hardware, and QA teams to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability
