About The Position

Alarm.com is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead the development of key commercial video hardware products, with an initial focus on their PoE camera line. This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to operate at both the architectural and detailed product levels. The Product Manager will own products across hardware, firmware, and software throughout their entire lifecycle. This involves collaborating with ODM partners on platform and component choices, making product and specification tradeoffs, evaluating real-world installation workflows, and driving the necessary software and firmware development to deliver a complete product experience. Responsibilities can range from reviewing chipset options with hardware partners and assessing prototype mechanical constraints to prioritizing launch-critical software issues with engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in system architecture as well as the finer details that contribute to a polished and finished product in the field, such as accessory quality, LED behavior, cable routing, installation flow, and overall polish. This position is well-suited for product managers with deep hardware and embedded systems experience, or for hardware, embedded, or systems engineers transitioning into product management.

Requirements

  • Strong technical depth in hardware or embedded systems, with the ability to engage credibly on device architecture, component tradeoffs, and system constraints.
  • Ability to operate across hardware, firmware, and software, reasoning about the full system and making prioritization calls across disciplines.
  • Hands-on product instincts, willing to inspect products, test assumptions, and understand the difference between theoretical functionality and practical application.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate simpler paths when faced with potential delays or escalations.
  • Experience driving complex cross-functional work, maintaining momentum across teams and external partners.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, capable of writing rigorous requirements, documenting decisions, and communicating effectively with technical teams, partners, and leadership.
  • Strong technical foundation, preferably with a B.S. in an engineering discipline, computer science, math, physics, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience shipping cameras, IoT devices, networking hardware, or other connected devices.
  • Experience working with ODM, JDM, or contract manufacturing partners.
  • Experience in video surveillance, physical security, or commercial device ecosystems.
  • Background as a hardware, embedded, systems, mechanical, or firmware engineer before moving into product.
  • Familiarity with installer-driven products or products deployed in real-world commercial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product development for high-priority commercial video devices, beginning with PoE cameras.
  • Own product direction from concept through launch and continued lifecycle improvement.
  • Define requirements and make tradeoff decisions across the full product experience, including hardware, firmware, and software, ensuring they integrate into a cohesive and functional product for customers and installers.
  • Work directly with ODM partners to evaluate platforms, select components, solidify specifications, and drive execution, ensuring quality and challenging assumptions.
  • Review products from the installer and end-user perspective, identifying and driving improvements for mounting, wiring, accessory kits, setup, and deployment.
  • Take ownership of final product quality and finish, providing feedback on industrial/mechanical details, status indicators, packaging, in-box accessories, and setup experience.
  • Lead key product launches end-to-end, including critical issue resolution and post-launch prioritization, partnering with engineering, QA, operations, design, and PMM.
  • Make cross-functional decisions, working across hardware, firmware, software, operations, design, quality, and go-to-market teams, owning the product outcome while engineering owns implementation.
