Senior Product Manager, Planning

Avathon•Pleasanton, CA
•$140,000 - $180,000•Onsite

About The Position

Avathon is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own Planning on its Industrial AI platform, beginning with integrated demand planning. The scope includes statistical and machine-learning forecasting, demand sensing, demand-supply matching, inventory positioning, and S&OP for manufacturers and asset-heavy operators in energy, mining, manufacturing, and aerospace. The role will turn customer-by-customer planning capabilities into a cohesive product with a clear roadmap, built on Avathon’s Computational Knowledge Graph and AI agents, including its manufacturing planner agent. This is a product management role in Product Engineering, not a customer delivery role. The manager will own what the company builds and why, partnering with engineering, AI science, and forward-deployed teams to ship products. The role owns the vision, roadmap, and priorities for Planning across demand, supply, inventory, and S&OP; defines agentic planning workflows and the boundaries between core product and customer configuration; and determines how planning connects with PLM and BOM data, logistics, procurement, and asset health. It also owns the demand planning module and how consensus demand plans flow into supply allocation, inventory repositioning, and asset rebalancing. The Senior Product Manager will conduct customer discovery with planners and S&OP leaders, translate deployment requests into reusable product requirements, and work with data science to make model outputs understandable and actionable. They will write requirements and acceptance criteria, conduct release reviews with the engineering lead, maintain a credible roadmap, and track adoption and business value, including forecast accuracy, inventory turns, and clear-to-build hit rate. The position is based in the Bay Area, California. Candidates must report to Avathon’s Pleasanton office five days per week; the role is not remote. The annual salary range is $140,000–$180,000, with pay varying based on geographic location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience, including at least 4 years owning a supply chain planning product such as demand planning, S&OP, inventory, or supply planning.
  • Experience at a planning software vendor such as Blue Yonder, o9 Solutions, Kinaxis, Oracle SCM, SAP IBP, Anaplan, or Aera, or experience leading planning systems at a large manufacturer.
  • Deep knowledge of demand planning, including how statistical and ML forecasting methods work, what accuracy and bias metrics mean, and how demand plans drive supply decisions.
  • Breadth across plan-to-fulfill, including demand-supply matching, inventory optimization, allocation, and S&OP.
  • Experience shipping AI- or ML-driven product features to enterprise customers.
  • Comfort with ERP, MES, and PLM data, including SAP and Oracle, and how that data flows into planning.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to write a one-page product brief that engineering and sales can both understand.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field.
  • Must be based in the Bay Area, California, and report to the Pleasanton office five days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agentic workflows in planning.
  • Experience in industrial B2B environments such as manufacturing, mining, energy, or aerospace.
  • An MBA or MS degree.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, roadmap, and priorities for Planning across demand, supply, inventory, and S&OP.
  • Assess the planning software market, including the strengths of Blue Yonder, o9, Kinaxis, Oracle, and SAP IBP, and identify where an AI-native, graph-based approach can win.
  • Define how planners work with, supervise, and override agents that generate forecasts, flag exceptions, and recommend supply actions.
  • Decide which capabilities belong in the core product and which should remain customer configuration.
  • Define how planning connects to PLM and BOM data, logistics, procurement, and asset health.
  • Own the demand planning module, including statistical forecasting, ML-based demand sensing, and collaborative demand review.
  • Define requirements for demand segmentation, forecast value-add (FVA), and bias and accuracy analytics.
  • Bring B2B demand signals—including customer contracts, project forecasts, production schedules, commodity indices, and macro indicators—into the planning engine.
  • Own how consensus demand plans flow into supply allocation, inventory repositioning, and asset rebalancing, and determine how trade-offs are presented to planners.
  • Design collaborative workflows for demand analysts, supply planners, sales, and S&OP leaders to review, override, and approve plans with a full audit trail.
  • Spend time with planners and S&OP leaders at customer sites and iterate based on real planning cycles.
  • Turn requests from deployments into reusable product requirements.
  • Work with data science so model outputs become recommendations planners understand and act on.
  • Write clear requirements and acceptance criteria, run release reviews with the engineering lead, and keep the roadmap honest.
  • Track adoption and value delivered, including forecast accuracy, inventory turns, and clear-to-build hit rate.
