About The Position

The Senior Product Manager is responsible for product management and commercialization of MSD products, assuring the achievement of short- and long-term revenue, profit, and goals. This position is also responsible for the evaluation of industry and customer trends, defining customer needs, the development of detailed product requirements for defining future products, and their commercial launch into the market place. This position will be part of cross-functional teams providing product vision and strategy, identifying and filling product gaps, and generating innovative ideas to grow market share. This position will own the full lifecycle of the product line from new product introduction, forecasting, pricing, supply continuity, and transitions to new product offerings. As a senior role within the team, the incumbent is expected to operate with a high degree of independence and to provide mentorship and guidance to other Product Managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in life science, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in product management.
  • Strong knowledge of product management best practices and proven track record of success in positioning, managing, and marketing Life Science products through their life cycle to multiple customer segments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of immunoassays and proteomics platforms, their development, and their applicability in different research fields.
  • Deep understanding of analytical instruments (optical systems, detection technologies, robotics, fluidics) and/or laboratory software systems; knowledge of hardware-software integration, embedded systems, and UI/UX design principles.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time-sensitive deadlines and deliverables.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of the format.
  • Ability to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust and respect with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Strong critical thinking, financial modeling, and data-driven decision-making capabilities with experience in market research and customer insights.
  • Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities.
  • Ability to advise, mentor and guide teammates in product management best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Development and execution of product line strategy, including defining product strategy and roadmap, balancing product line innovation with operational excellence, building business cases for new product offerings and portfolio expansion, and monitoring product performance, market trends, and customer needs.
  • Market insight and voice of customer activities, including partnering with field-based commercial teams to capture feedback, gathering and synthesizing market insights, and conducting voice of customer research.
  • Product development, launch, and lifecycle management, including partnering with R&D to define product requirements, specifications, and performance metrics, defining product positioning, pricing, and differentiation, supporting marketing collateral and training materials, accountability for commercial success, and defining and analyzing KPIs.
  • Monitoring the competitive environment for products and product lines, including performing competitive product analysis, developing tactics for addressing competition, and monitoring competitor strategies.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Global Sales Management, Scientific Support, Customer Service, and Finance to drive product development and improve marketing effectiveness and customer loyalty.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to other Product Managers, assisting team members in developing product messaging, market sizing, financial forecasts, and pricing.
