About The Position

Mercury's ability to operate reliable banking comes down to the infrastructure we build that ensures money moves correctly - every transaction, across every payment rail, with the precision and accountability that customers, regulators, and the financial system itself require. Banking Foundations is the team that builds and owns the platform that makes that possible — the layer that connects Mercury to the Federal Reserve, the payment networks, and our core banking provider, and gives the rest of the company a reliable surface to build on. We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own this platform across Mercury. The Banking Foundations platform sits at the intersection of payment rail mechanics, regulatory accountability, and org-wide platform adoption — and the PM who leads our connectivity infrastructure will need to be as comfortable discussing payment rail behavior with engineers as discussing reporting precision with the Treasury team. This is a load-bearing platform role: the decisions made here flow through every payment Mercury makes as a bank and shape Mercury's future. Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product management experience in fintech, payments, banking, or financial infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with payment rails — ACH, wires, RTP, cards, checks, or similar — with real depth on how they actually work: protocols, settlement, returns, reversals, and exceptions, not just the API surface above them.
  • Real technical fluency: you can engage credibly with engineers on distributed systems, transactional integrity, idempotency, and exception handling — not as a generalist, but as a peer.
  • A track record of building or scaling internal platforms that other product teams consume — you know what it takes to drive adoption, reduce friction, and hold a safety bar.
  • Experience working with bank partners, processors, or core banking providers.
  • A highly structured, data-driven approach to product decisions: you think in systems, model second and third-order effects, and communicate tradeoffs in a way that lands with engineering, finance, and operations audiences alike.
  • Exceptional cross-functional communication: you earn credibility in rooms with engineers, accountants, treasury teams, compliance officers, and operators, and you hold your own in all of them.

Responsibilities

  • Own the connectivity platform: Drive strategy and execution for the platform that connects Mercury to the Federal Reserve, the payment networks, and our core banking provider.
  • Drive org-wide adoption: Partner with payment rails teams across Mercury to enable their flows on the connectivity platform. Establish patterns, simplify integration, and accelerate the standardization that bank-grade money movement requires.
  • Design for the edges of money movement: Work with engineering on platform behavior that handles settlement, returns, reversals, and exceptions gracefully, and that gives operators clear visibility when something needs attention.
  • Set the standard for cash management visibility: Define what real-time visibility into Mercury's bank-level cash position looks like for Finance, Accounting, and Treasury, and partner with them to deliver it.
  • Partner with engineering on protocol and architecture: Work alongside the engineering team on the technical design of how Mercury connects to the networks and how those connections evolve as Mercury Bank scales.
  • Navigate a complex stakeholder environment: Coordinate across payment rails teams, Banking Foundations sister teams, Finance, Treasury, Compliance, Risk, and our external partners — all of whom depend on the platform you own and have a voice in how it evolves.
