About The Position

Maxwell is seeking a Senior Product Manager, AI & Data to lead the development of AI products and engineering functions. This role is a player-coach position where you will directly own execution and build the AI product and engineering team over time. You will define direction by shipping products and have a strong understanding of working across data, models, and product constraints to ship reliably. You are comfortable with data engineering, including pipelines, schemas, and data quality, and can articulate technical concepts to both engineers and executives. The ideal candidate ships fast, makes pragmatic decisions about building versus buying solutions, and operates effectively in ambiguous environments with imperfect data. You have experience managing or mentoring AI and data engineers and know how to maximize the potential of a small technical team. Maxwell's mission is to build enterprise software that simplifies and makes mortgage lending more accessible, focusing on the human aspect of the largest financing decision in a person's life. Their digital mortgage platform is used by hundreds of lending institutions nationwide.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in product management, with at least 3 years focused on AI/ML products in production.
  • Demonstrated experience shipping AI-powered features end-to-end, from problem definition through model deployment and evaluation.
  • Experience managing or mentoring AI engineers or data engineers directly.
  • Strong technical fluency: Ability to read API docs, evaluate model outputs, and collaborate with ML engineers.
  • Strong data engineering fluency: Ability to reason about pipelines, schemas, data quality, and AI infrastructure.
  • Experience with LLM-based systems, including prompt design, RAG architectures, document intelligence, or similar.
  • Track record of shipping AI features quickly, with a bias for learning through production deployment.
  • Ability to write crisp product specs, lead cross-functional reviews, and present to executives.
  • Proven ability to manage peer relationships across Product, Engineering, and Customer Experience.
  • Data-driven prioritization discipline: Ability to evaluate impact, weigh tradeoffs, and say no.

Nice To Haves

  • Fintech, mortgage, or regulated industry experience.
  • Awareness of how AI systems operate in regulated environments and their impact on product design.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud AI services (Bedrock, SageMaker) or equivalent cloud AI platforms.
  • Experience with document AI including classification, extraction, completeness, or verification workflows.
  • Hands-on familiarity with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery) and transformation tools (dbt).
  • Product analytics tools (PostHog, Pendo, Mixpanel) and SQL proficiency.
  • Experience scaling a small AI product or engineering function.

Responsibilities

  • Own AI product strategy and roadmap across document intelligence, workflow automation, and data-driven decisioning, with a focus on the mortgage Point of Sale integration.
  • Directly manage AI engineers and data engineers, setting direction, removing blockers, and developing the team.
  • Deeply integrate AI into the POS, ensuring AI capabilities are embedded in the borrower and loan officer experience.
  • Coordinate across AI and data engineering to design, scope, and ship production systems rapidly.
  • Build peer relationships with Product, Engineering, and Customer Experience to ensure AI alignment with the overall product.
  • Evaluate vendors and models based on cost, performance, and build vs. buy considerations.
  • Manage feature intake and prioritization for AI features, including evaluation, sequencing, and delivery.
