About The Position

Mueller Co. LLC is hiring a Senior Product Engineer for its Decatur, Illinois location. The role leads product engineering projects from design through development and implementation, coordinates cross-functional teams, provides technical expertise, and mentors junior engineers. The engineer produces working drawings using SolidWorks, Creo, and/or AutoCAD; prepares bills of materials and process sheets; and provides engineering support and improvements for assigned product lines. The position applies industry specifications and coordinates with approval agencies for new or modified products and follow-up activities. It supports internal and external customers on product, process, application, and installation issues, and communicates design changes, manufacturing challenges, and cost-reduction opportunities. The engineer also contributes to manufacturing initiatives, engineering metrics, ISO documentation and practices, and product lifecycle activities such as materials, drawings, configurations, development, testing, and maintenance. Identifying and presenting cost-saving ideas with supporting justification and ROI calculations is also part of the role.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Five years of experience as a CAD Engineer or in a related role.
Five years of mechanical design experience using Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD software.
Experience with casting, machining, and painting processes.
PC and systems knowledge, including 2D and 3D CAD, PLM databases, and ERP software.
Experience with manufacturing situations, quality standards, product development, CAD/CAM, technical specifications, and project management.
Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools, such as FEMA.

Responsibilities

Lead product engineering projects, overseeing design, development, and implementation while coordinating cross-functional teams to support timely, aligned delivery.
Provide technical guidance, best practices, and strategic insights as a product engineering subject matter expert.
Mentor and supervise junior engineers through coaching and skill development.
Prepare working drawings using SolidWorks, Creo, and/or AutoCAD according to requirements and schedules.
Generate bills of materials and process sheets for assigned product lines.
Provide shop-floor engineering support and implement improvements for assigned product lines.
Contribute to engineering projects and improvements to engineering metrics.
Use applicable industry specifications to develop products.
Coordinate approval agency activities for new or modified products and associated follow-up.
Support internal and external customers on product, process, application, and installation issues.
Communicate design changes, manufacturing difficulties caused by product design, and cost-reduction ideas involving product alterations or manufacturing improvements.
Stay informed about company product offerings in the assigned area and support manufacturing initiatives, including Kaizen, standard work, value stream mapping, safety, capital projects, and labor efficiency improvements.
Develop and maintain manuals, procedures, and practices needed to maintain ISO certification and working relationships with approved agencies such as UL, ULC, FM, NSF, and ISO.
Support Product Management and Engineering with customer needs throughout the product lifecycle, including materials, bills of materials, submittal drawings, configurations, new product development, testing, and product maintenance.
Identify, document, and present cost-saving ideas with justification and ROI calculations.
