About The Position

As a Senior Development Quality Engineer, you will act as the lead quality engineer and technical authority on our most complex new product development and contract manufacturing programs for aerospace, industrial, and semiconductor applications. You will own customer-facing quality relationships, set inspection strategy from engineering definition through production, and drive programs to completion through disciplined project management and structured problem solving. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports; you will lead through technical authority, influence, and mentorship. The role reports to the Development Quality Engineering Manager. We’re seeking someone who doesn’t just ensure quality—but elevates it—bringing curiosity, leadership, and a drive to leave every program better than they found it. This role has a hybrid work schedule requiring the person to be onsite 3 days a week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, aerospace, materials, or a related field; advanced degree a plus, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4 years or more of progressive experience in quality engineering, with significant time in a regulated or high-reliability industry (aerospace, industrial, or semiconductor).
  • Strong, demonstrated GD&T expertise (ASME Y14.5), including the ability to interpret PMI, identify CTQs, and build inspection methods accordingly.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of leading and driving complex cross-functional programs to completion on schedule.
  • Demonstrated leadership of structured problem-solving and root cause analysis (8D/RCCA) on systemic issues in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing contract reviews and managing requirement flow-down to internal and supplier processes.
  • Hands-on experience with First Article Inspection (AS9102), MSA/Gage R&R, SPC, and process capability analysis.
  • Knowledge of quality management system standards such as AS9100 (Aerospace Quality Management Systems) and ISO 9001, plus familiarity with APQP/PPAP (AS9145) and high-reliability or semiconductor quality expectations.
  • Strong understanding of quality tools and methodologies, including FMEA, CAPA, and statistical analysis.
  • Experience with product and process validation, design control, and risk management.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across functions and represent quality to external customers.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentation, and able to work independently and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • This position serves the Quality Engineering Group, which includes the need to work on export controlled products from aerospace and defense customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Quality certifications strongly desirable (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor, Six Sigma Black Belt, or lead-auditor certification).
  • Applied experience with and understanding of additive manufacturing a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead quality engineer and technical authority on key contract manufacturing programs, planning quality deliverables against program milestones and driving schedule, risk, and stakeholder communication to keep programs on track.
  • Perform contract and purchase order reviews, and interpret and ensure the flow-down of customer, regulatory, and engineering requirements into internal processes, supplier requirements, and inspection plans.
  • Apply strong GD&T expertise (ASME Y14.5) to interpret engineering drawings and product manufacturing information (PMI), identify critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics, and establish inspection methods, plans, and acceptance criteria based on those GD&T CTQs.
  • Own First Article Inspection in accordance with AS9102, including documentation, bubbled drawings, and disposition.
  • Lead measurement systems analysis (MSA/Gage R&R) and establish statistical process control (SPC) and process capability monitoring (Cpk/Ppk) for critical characteristics.
  • Own APQP/PPAP deliverables (per AS9145 or equivalent) for key programs, coordinating cross-functional teams through each phase.
  • Serve as the senior quality voice to customers, owning quality agreements, change control, and escalations, and leading or hosting customer and regulatory audits.
  • Lead complex root cause and corrective action efforts (8D/RCCA) on systemic non-conformances, and implement and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Define, track, and drive cost-of-poor-quality (CoPQ) metrics, using them to prioritize improvement efforts.
  • Develop, execute, and oversee risk management activities, including process and design risk assessments (PFMEA/DFMEA) and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Influence product and process design for inspectability and manufacturability, and help transition programs from development infrastructure into true production.
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to junior Development Quality Engineers as a technical authority.
  • Assist in supplier quality management, source inspection, and supplier audits to ensure the quality of incoming materials and components.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation, including design history files, risk management files, and inspection and test records.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality standards, such as AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, AS9102, and AS9145, and other relevant standards for regulated and high-reliability manufacturing.
  • Continuously monitor industry trends and regulatory updates to stay current with best practices and compliance.
