Senior Product Designer

VSCOSan Francisco, CA

About The Position

VSCO is looking for a Senior Product Designer who works as both a product and systems designer. This role involves developing and extending design systems across platforms, building cross-product workflows, and designing AI tooling and interfaces as core product work. The position sits at the intersection of systems and product, requiring an AI-first approach to design, build, and collaboration. This is a role within a small, fast-moving team that emphasizes shipping, iterating, and continuous learning. The ideal candidate asks questions before committing, embraces challenges, and moves quickly without compromising on quality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing and shipping digital products end-to-end, from concept to delivery.
  • Experience designing for mobile (iOS/Android) and responsive web.
  • Mobile-first design experience is a must.
  • AI-native workflow: proficient in using AI tools for design and prototyping, understanding their role in system quality.
  • Experience owning or contributing to a design system at scale, including tokenization, component architecture, and maintenance.
  • Exceptionally high craft bar: polished, precise, and intentional design skills.
  • Strong command of transition animations and prototyping, creating prototypes engineers can build from.
  • Experience with cross-product or platform-level design, maintaining context across surfaces for coherence.
  • Experience running experiments and using A/B testing results to inform decisions.
  • Bias toward speed and execution; ability to move fast and make decisions with incomplete information.
  • Deep systems thinking; ability to see the whole before the parts and design patterns that don't create downstream problems.
  • Proactive approach: leans in and asks questions to gain clarity before committing.
  • A portfolio showcasing high craft and evidence of thought process, not just final shipped products.
  • Strong collaboration skills; ability to align teams through a clear point of view.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with growth design, including activation flows, upgrade moments, conversion surfaces, or product-led growth patterns.
  • Experience designing for creative tools, photography products, or creative communities.
  • Familiarity with design token architecture and cross-platform theming.
  • Affinity for VSCO’s mission and the photographers it serves.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the design system (VUI), ensuring it is clean, well-tokenized, and structured for designer confidence.
  • Utilize AI tooling to continuously audit and improve the design system.
  • Define transition animations and interaction patterns.
  • Create prototypes with a fidelity that engineers can build from directly.
  • Design cross-product platform experiences, including search, growth entry points, and end-to-end user journeys.
  • Contribute to product-led growth initiatives across the funnel: onboarding, activation, and retention.
  • Run experiments and iterate based on results.
  • Design and prototype AI-powered tools, using them to audit and scale the design system rapidly.
  • Model AI-powered design workflows for the team.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure tight alignment between design intent and implementation.
  • Design for mobile (iOS/Android) and responsive web, with a mobile-first approach.
  • Apply an AI-native workflow, using AI tools as a core part of the design and prototyping process.
  • Contribute to a design system at scale, focusing on tokenization, component architecture, and long-term health.
  • Apply a high craft bar to design, ensuring polished, precise, and intentional work.
  • Design motion with purpose and produce prototypes that engineers can build from.
  • Design for coherence at scale across multiple surfaces and products.
  • Run experiments in an A/B testing environment and use results to inform decisions.
  • Exhibit a bias toward speed and execution, making decisions with incomplete information and shipping without a perfect brief.
  • Apply deep systems thinking to design patterns that avoid downstream problems.
  • Collaborate effectively by aligning teams through a clear point of view.
