Senior Product Designer

Render
$195,000 - $268,000

About The Position

Render is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join their team. This role focuses on evolving the platform from a tool for solo developers to a backbone for fast-scaling teams, particularly as user applications grow into complex, multi-service architectures. The designer will be responsible for making these complex systems feel simple and cohesive. This is a craft-focused individual contributor role involving demanding web UI design, where the designer will own surfaces developers rely on during critical, high-stress situations. The role requires designing for infrastructure, where failure is a first-class state. The designer will join a collaborative team with weekly critiques and cross-functional partnerships, thriving on untangling complex problems and creating accessible, beautiful experiences.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in developer tools, cloud infrastructure, or another complex, high-stakes product.
  • Exceptional taste and craft, with an obsessive eye for detail in typography, spacing, motion, density, and interaction feedback.
  • Strong information architecture skills to make complex relationships feel obvious.
  • Ability to design the entire user journey, not just individual screens, showing coherence across all surfaces.
  • Fluent in developer language, understanding services, CI/CD, and deployments.
  • Respect for failure states, designing error messages as interfaces for users having a bad day.
  • Systems fluency, comfortable working in and contributing to a design system.
  • Strong product judgment under fast launch velocity, with good problem framing and prioritization skills.
  • Clear, direct communication and a collaborative working style with product and engineering partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing complex dashboards, monitoring tools, or console interfaces.
  • Experience being on-call, running side projects, or debugging systems in production.
  • Excitement to design CLI tools or shape SDKs, and explore new frontiers like agentic workflows and AI-assisted design.
  • Design-engineering literacy, comfort with code, motion, or prototyping.
  • Writing, talks, or side projects demonstrating craft and point of view.

Responsibilities

  • Make a multi-service system legible at a glance by designing views that show service connections and dependencies.
  • Design system-level observability, including aggregated logs, metrics, deploys, and events across a project.
  • Design cross-service deployment and rollback, and a preview model for safe shipping at scale.
  • Design and consider all product states, including build errors, failed deploys, and empty states, turning them into helpful experiences.
  • Own a first-run experience from signup to first successful deploy, making it recommendable.
  • Contribute concept explorations and a strong point of view to a design-led discovery track, shaping the platform's future.

Benefits

  • 4 weeks of paid vacation.
  • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents.
  • Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.
  • 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent.
  • FSAs and HSAs are available.
  • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health and therapy, hobbies, etc.
  • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.
  • Commuter benefits for Renders in the Bay Area.
  • Home office stipends for remote Renders.
  • Continuous learning benefits & related support.
