Senior Product Designer

VSCOSan Francisco, CA
$190,000 - $205,000Hybrid

About The Position

VSCO is seeking a Senior Product Designer who will function as both a product and systems designer. This role involves developing and extending design systems across platforms, building cross-product workflows, and designing AI tooling and interfaces as core product work. The ideal candidate will bring an AI-first approach to design, build, and collaboration, helping to define this for the team. This is a position within a small, fast-moving team that emphasizes shipping, iterating, and continuous learning. The right person will be proactive in asking questions, embrace challenges, and maintain a high standard of craft while moving quickly.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience designing and shipping digital products end-to-end, from concept to delivery.
  • Experience designing for mobile (iOS/Android) and responsive web, with a mobile-first approach.
  • AI-native workflow: proficient in using AI tools as a core part of the design and prototyping process, understanding the importance of system quality for AI functionality.
  • Experience owning or contributing to a design system at scale, including tokenization, component architecture, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Exceptionally high craft bar: producing polished, precise, and intentional work that elevates the standards of those around you.
  • Strong command of transition animations and prototyping, designing motion with purpose and creating engineer-ready prototypes.
  • Experience with cross-product or platform-level design, maintaining context across surfaces and designing for coherence at scale.
  • Experience running experiments, comfortable in an A/B testing environment, and using results to inform decisions without compromising craft.
  • Bias toward speed and execution: ability to move fast, make decisions with incomplete information, and ship without a perfect brief.
  • Deep systems thinking: ability to see the whole system before focusing on individual parts and design patterns that avoid downstream issues.
  • Proactive approach: willingness to push for clarity before committing.
  • A portfolio showcasing high craft and demonstrating thought process, not just final shipped products.
  • Strong collaboration skills: ability to align teams through a clear point of view.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with growth design, including activation flows, upgrade moments, conversion surfaces, or product-led growth patterns.
  • Experience designing for creative tools, photography products, or creative communities.
  • Familiarity with design token architecture and cross-platform theming.
  • Affinity for VSCO’s mission and the photographers it serves.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the design system (VUI), ensuring it is clean, well-tokenized, and structured for designer confidence. Utilize AI tooling for continuous auditing and improvement.
  • Define transition animations and interaction patterns, creating prototypes with a fidelity that engineers can build from directly.
  • Design cross-product platform experiences, including search, growth entry points, and end-to-end user journeys.
  • Contribute to product-led growth across the user funnel (onboarding, activation, retention) by running experiments and iterating based on results.
  • Design and prototype AI-powered tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude), using them to audit and scale the design system rapidly, and modeling this workflow for the team.
  • Partner closely with engineering to ensure tight alignment between design intent and implementation.
  • Conduct pre-employment background checks as part of the hiring process.
