About The Position

This is a hybrid position and requires onsite work minimally three days a week at our Valley City OH location. As a Senior Product & Design Researcher - Outdoor Power Equipment Innovation, you’ll be part of our Stanley Black & Decker Outdoor Innovation team working as a hybrid employee. You’ll get to design and execute qualitative and quantitative field research studies, including ethnographic observations, in-context interviews, and prototype testing. You will proactively recruit and manage panels of businesses, professional users, and end-users for research participation. You will identify and document end-user pain points, workflows, and unmet needs within outdoor power equipment and adjacent categories. You will lead concept validation testing—organizing, facilitating, and analyzing prototype feedback in real-world settings. You will synthesize research findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for product development and design teams. You will conduct market sizing, competitive landscape analysis, and trend research to inform strategic innovation decisions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, and design to align research insights with business goals. You will present research findings through compelling storytelling, reports, and visualizations to influence decision-making. You will stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and user behaviors in outdoor and adjacent markets. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship (H1B, OPT/CPT, TN etc).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in product or design research, field testing, or innovation research—preferably within outdoor equipment, power tools, or related consumer products.
  • Proven ability to recruit and manage research participants, including individuals, businesses, and professional users.
  • Strong expertise in observational research, ethnography, usability testing, and concept validation.
  • Experience with market sizing, competitor analysis, and trend research.
  • Excellent analytical, synthesis, and storytelling skills—able to translate complex data into clear insights.
  • Comfortable working in real-world outdoor environments and managing multiple research projects concurrently.
  • Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, sociology, design, engineering, marketing, or related field.
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
