The Senior Product Design Engineer role is an opportunity to contribute to the next generation of innovative products within the Shark Floorcare brand, focusing on technology and feasibility to shape the product roadmap.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of proven experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with electromechanical products in a product development environment, ideally including motorized floor-cleaning systems.
  • Experience designing for plastic parts, including silicone, rubber, and injection molded parts.
  • Experience working with IP teams to track prior art and identify novel solutions.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions autonomously as part of a team.
  • Comfort operating in a lab environment for building prototypes, running product testing, and reporting findings.
  • An appreciation for electrical engineering, software, and mechanical principles.
  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Industrial Design with a focus on engineering principles.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and perseverance, with a positive attitude and an entrepreneurial nature.
  • Preference for collaboration.
  • Not afraid to fail fast, learn, and pivot.
  • Proven problem-solver who can generate and deliver solutions within project timelines.
  • Good judgment about which problems to solve and how to make daily progress.
  • Belief in iterating to prove out hypotheses.
  • Continuous evaluation of design intent to achieve outstanding results.

  • Keen to join internal working groups outside core role to improve processes, working environment, and internal mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Floorcare roadmap's front-end technology and feasibility phase for next-generation vacuums and floorcare products.
  • Work on the front-end product and engineering development phase, using ideation and innovation techniques to drive the roadmap with cross-functional teams.
  • Drive ideas to conclusion early via functional rigs, handing off solutions to the back-end implementation team.
  • Tinker hands-on across short- and long-term projects with proof-of-concept rigs.
  • Communicate ideas effectively through sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes.
  • Carry out design and engineering studies to solve technical or consumer issues, prioritizing user experience.
  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure front-end sensibilities drive product direction through development.
  • Coach and support teammates, especially junior colleagues.
  • Balance and prioritize multiple workflows across projects on fast-paced schedules and deadlines.
