About The Position

Figma is growing its team and is looking for a proactive, business-minded Senior Product Counsel to join the Product Legal team. This role will serve as a primary legal partner for the Product, Design, and Engineering (PDE) teams, assisting them with complex legal questions as product releases accelerate. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with an ownership mentality, capable of building a practical, forward-looking approach to risk management. The position reports to the Director, Product Legal, and will be instrumental in scaling legal guidance across the organization. This is a full-time role that can be based in one of Figma's US hubs or remotely within the United States.

Requirements

  • In-depth experience counseling on legal issues relating to technology, IP, privacy, data protection, consumer protection, and AI.
  • Proven ownership mentality, including hands-on engagement with product details, process-building from scratch, and independent prioritization.
  • A business-first, solution-oriented approach, including comfort making independent decisions and taking smart risks with imperfect information.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI and experience advising on AI-powered products or platforms.
  • 8+ years of legal experience.
  • J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent).
  • U.S.-qualified.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in-house at a SaaS company.
  • Familiarity with using and advising on ML/AI products.
  • A technical background is a huge plus.

Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with Figma's Product, Design, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to provide practical legal guidance on product development and go-to-market strategy.
  • Review product user experiences, disclosures, and external marketing and communications materials to mitigate legal risk while helping teams achieve their goals.
  • Partner with cross-functional Legal teams (Commercial, IP, Regulatory) to ensure cohesive strategy and support.
  • Advise on legal issues relating to data protection, privacy, consumer protection, IP, and evolving AI-specific laws and regulations.
  • Develop and build out the processes, resources, and scaffolding needed to help the team scale legal guidance as product releases accelerate.
  • Identify and communicate emerging legal risks early in the product development cycle to enable faster, more confident decision-making.
