As a Senior Producer/Editor you will play a central role in shaping and making this show: you will both drive episodes from pitch to publish and edit other producers' work, helping to define the sound, structure and ambitions of The Sunday Daily.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of audio production experience, including significant time as a senior producer and/or editor on narrative or news shows.
  • Demonstrated experience owning complex episodes end-to-end and editing others' work at a high level.
  • Deep experience as a producer: Able to run complex episodes with minimal oversight, including scene-building, scoring, and closing shows on deadline.
  • Expertise in audio editing (ideally Pro Tools); strong ear for pacing, levels and music; ability to guide mixes even when not doing the hands-on engineering.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfort navigating editorial disagreement; habit of modeling respectful creative rigor and curiosity.

Nice To Haves

  • Structure, plan, and produce stories with clarity and impact, identify stakes and tension, and use tape, scenes and scoring in ways that elevate the work.
  • Some experience editing other producers' work, giving notes that diagnose what isn't working and propose concrete, doable solutions.
  • Strong relationship to Times-style journalism (or equivalent): Comfort working with reporters and editors, and a track record of translating rigorous reporting into accessible, compelling stories.
  • Fluency with culture and/or science/health coverage: A sharp sense of what feels timely and resonant in these areas, and how to connect niche or emerging topics to a broad audience.
  • Studio and field leadership: Confidence directing hosts, reporters and guests, and eliciting tape that feels alive, specific and emotionally rich.
  • A track record of thriving in a fast-moving, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high editorial and craft standards.
  • Work collaboratively on a team

Responsibilities

  • Own episodes from conception to completion – including research, booking, recording in the field and/or studio, cutting tape, scoring and working with engineers on final mixes.
  • Help to develop and refine the show's identity in collaboration with the Executive Producer – ensuring each episode reflects Sunday's mission, tone and editorial bar.
  • Generate pitches that fit Sunday's lane: culture-forward, science and health, zeitgeisty ideas and character-driven stories that feel timely, revealing and emotionally engaging.
  • Work directly with hosts and Times journalists –scripting and refining questions, prepping them for studio sessions, and directing in the studio.
  • Coach Times journalists translate their reporting and ideas into compelling audio episodes.
  • Collaborate across The Daily and the wider newsroom, coordinating with show leadership on host time, coverage plans and editorial conflicts; ensuring Sunday feels distinct but in The Daily universe.
  • Guard standards with rigor – fact-checking and working with standards and legal as needed; applying Times editorial standards of fairness, accuracy and independence to every episode.
  • Help evolve systems and workflows for a weekly show – contributing to Sunday SOPs, Airtable tracking, Scoop and Simplecast workflows.
  • Contribute to programming strategy – helping identify potential episode ideas and experiments in format that can deepen listener loyalty and expand what the show can do.
  • Craft and edit episode copy in Scoop.
  • May occasionally edit Sunday Daily episodes – shaping the frame, structure and pacing of stories, doing line edits on scripts, and giving clear, constructive notes that sharpen ideas and structure.
